Basically it's a custom built lowboy, I designed them myself and had detailed specs as far ramp angle, king pin, beavertail length etc. I had ordered a batch of six to be built in 2005, I was going to have 6 more built the next year but Chapperal sold out to Doonan trailer, and they told me they were not interested in building them.

So I am 'working" on what is next, I do have a couple of shipshe trailers also, but the chapperals have been the best thing going, just put all new Hendrickson axles under them, probably never sell them.

Great pics. How much heavier are those van conversions from the original base unit weight ?

The Mini vans weigh right at 4500 so they are real close to factory, the big sprinters pick up about 750 to 1200 the high top ford f350 that we haul for the hotel chains pickup about 1600, that hightop fiberglass top is heavy!

The big problem with the mini vans is not the weight, but the height, they raise them UP 4" and then DROP the floors 10"!

We just dropped our first loads of the new Big RAM van to a dealer Convention in Col. I believe these are based off the Fiat Ducato van from across the pond. Might pick up some work out of this deal.

Did you "log" your "unload" time as ON- DUTY, and turn in all the paperwork?

I wish I was back in Hawaii life is way better but can't afford to live there until my kids are older.

Trucking in Hawaii is tough look up road to Kona its a one lane road over a mountain switch backs and blind curves with a 100 foot drop takes 6 hrs to go 50 miles. On Oahu traffic is worst then LA rush hour and hours are long usually 14 plus no drop and hook no lumpers manual load unload. Not to mention they still use old school trucks day cab cabovers spring ride no A/C might get lucky with power steering there is some new trucks but most are about 15 years old or better.

Here in the mainland driving is cush I go drop hook come home. Live unload or load I pay a lumper. Like today Im heading to Chicago easy light run drop and hook come home and Im done nothing but gravy.

Sounds like my truck, 1996 Intl 9600 cabover, rattles like a coffee can full of nuts kicked down a hill LOL, but gets the job done.
