I heard being a federal senator pays well, you get to be a senator 24/7/365 days a year for 160,000. Plus 40,000 if your not local. Or if you say your not local.

Raamman to BAD you do not read the posts at the start , the WORK I told her to check about was WORKING in a GRAVEL PIT had NOTHING to do with deliveries and running out of hours or dispatch but running off a crusher / screener to the STOCKPILE in the same GRAVEL pit.

And the MIN wage was in response to other POSTERS in reference to her offering to work for FREE just to get EXPERIENCE.

But no you WHINE / CRY about how bad you had it and its not relative to ANYTHING I posted for the OP.

yeah well I didn t think your math at 30cpm at 55mph= $16.50/hr was being entirely truthful about things, did you ? it's the kind of lie the recruiters give to suck people in~there are two sides to the coin.
around here, about the only place willing to give someone with no experience a drive is OTR. I feel it is important to give a wannabe a word of caution about that world-because once in, it can be twice as hard getting out.

working for free is pretty dangerous thing to get into- besides min wage legislation, workmans compensation and benefits is far more important to consider when the potiential for a permanent or long term debilitating injury exists; then there are liability issues in event of an accident/ or infraction of highway regulations- if a person is not being compensated for a service, what responsibility do they owe in return for nothing ?

Math seems fine to me. Now, if some low-rent outfit wants a driver to sit for hours or layover on the for-free plan, that's nasty and needs to be stopped. And speaking of low-rent outfits, I paid 30cpm too.

In 1990!!! Where do you find peeps that will work that cheap?

Just wondering if anyone has some suggestions for my area (hamilton). Took some (bad) advice and tried driving a "fert." truck at the beggining of May. Won't touch anything ever again that could/will get me fined or worse at the scales.
I might be just starting but do I really have to run equipment I know doesn't pass a pre-trip? I don't care what it looks or smells like(haha), or what bells and whistles (a/c, electronic anything, adjustable seat, radio, c/b, windows that open and close), I just want it to be something that would pass an inspection.

I'd even relocate out west (Alberta-north/Saskatchewan, where I really want to get back to anyhow) if I could get an offer of employment in writing (went to quebec in april without that for an hours of work-bait and switch, and came right back!)

Edit: I've tried several dump, concrete(mixers), landscaping, building/construction supply companies in and around (with and hours drive) and they are looking for az drivers for dz vehicles or they want another certificate( boom-truck, crane, forklift)
If I could even get a straight answer on why they want AZ drivers for DZ vehicles I think that could help (not that I have or am willing to spend the $$$ to get my AZ right now)

    :dontknow:

Getting experience is not as hard as you think it is. I have a friend who hires new drivers, makes them wash trailers for a few months, then slowly sends them loading trucks, then deliveries. Before the 6 months is up your working $360/ 13 hr trip which the majority of it is sitting with tourists on ferries whale watching 4+ hours every day (less than 400 kms driven). I would hook you up, however you'd have to move to the west coast.

Stop thinking its so hard and you need a favor from someone else. I can tell you right now, there are people who are desperate to have you work for them because no one else for the rates they are paying. DESPERATE for you to work for them. Seasonal jobs especially.
