Just had my Pete with 04 C-15 dyno'd after 180k on in frame. They called and told me the head gasket blew while on dyno. After getting the head off they found 1 and 4 where scoured severely and head gasket was fine. Head has been sent off for pressure test. The engine is still under CAT warranty so they are replacing 1 and 4 but I found out it overheated while on the dyno. It showed high coolant temp and very high coolant temp codes. Does any one no what actual temp those codes are triggered? After getting that hot I think I want a complete overhaul again and I'm looking for ammunition to get that done.

my question is why didn't they shut it down while it was on the dyno and temps got that hot?
topcat1974 Thanks this. -
I wish I knew the answer to that.

after I got done strangling the dyno operator, I think I'd be looking for a new Platinum inframe
-
High temps will take out the temper in your rings, and it will might run ok, but will start to use a lot of oil. They may try to sell you on the fact that it runs ok.
I would want a new engine, but doubt if you will get that far.... -
Don't let them get away with just replacing 1 and 4... tell them they need to do everything over again.. If 1 and 4 are gone 2 and 6 will be next then 3 and 5.. and you will be rebuilding a motor for 15k within another 50000 miles... Make them fix it now.. Go up the manager chain where you are at all the way to the top of the business.. If that doesn't work get a lawyer and get it fixed.. They are trying to push you just far enough to cancel out the warranty
Sumothertrucker Thanks this. -
Was this at a cat house ? And why was it on the dyno, low power complaint maybe ?
Anyway as others have said go to the top of the dealership Monday ......... -
Yes it's a CAT certified Freightliner dealer and no it was anything but low power. It ran great and did 6.64mpg. It's not the shop I've went to for past 10 years but they are affiliated and the only one with a dyno. It was on the dyno (this is where it gets sticky) because of my curiosity as the last inframe has PDI stage 1 tune, turbo, manifold and a 800 hp cam. Wanted to see what it was really putting down and it had to be in town for some other work so I decided to finally have it done. So, warranty would be void if CAT knew about the high perf stuff BUT like a nervous father I told the service writer how NOT to run this motor and they smoked it anyway. It was towed back to my normal shop and a buddy in the shop took a deeper look and found it reached 239 degrees for 25 seconds with a maximum of 1500 rpm. This tells me they lugged the #### out it when I spesificaly explained not to run it below 1350 as PDI explained to me....and there I was. So, yes, the next move Monday is to start at the top of the food chain in the dealership and hopefully don't have to get all legalmedival on there ###es.

A Cat-certified Freightliner shop is no Cat House...
