Tractor trailer vs Texting Teen

Phone down and drive...love it. Put the blasted thing away, turn it off and drive. Let it go to voice mail.

 

Many troopers and officers saw me with the phone in my hand and never stopped me. They have better things to do than dealing with a safe texter.

I was trained by one of the best trucking texters while in training at Werner. You can't be stupid and hold the phone up, hold it down by your knee. The light from the Qualcomm will mask the light from your phone screen. Never spend too much time actually looking at the screen. Auto correct is an absolute must.

While it is rare I take someone to task on here--are you really tryin to get others here to BUY into your nonsence about texting and driving?--IMHO--all you are trying to do is justify your BAD HABITS--it takes one slip--miss one little thing going on around you--and things go BAD very very quickly--call me OLD FASHIONED--call me one of those ol ##### pain in the ### no it alls--Im fine with that--oh and by the way--call me when you hit 4million SAFE MILES--and tell me IM WRONG--you,ve just been lucky

I know this is old but wanted to set the record straight as I know this girls family. First what the photo and reports don't show is that there was a Highway crew working on the road just north of the intersection that Savanna could not see around. When HP arrived on scene they made the crew stop working and leave the area because of the danger they were creating. Second, The truck was going unusually fast considering the Highway ends a quarter mile behind him. Third, the partial text that the HP says she was sending was typed by Savanna while standing in the driveway of her home NOT WHILE DRIVING. She put the phone in the passenger seat when she left where it was found. Her father was in another car behind her and witnessed the accident. The HP and reporters kept Hammering the texting thing even after all was explained by her father that she was not texting. They never mentioned the highway trucks blocking her view or that there was no flag man. Or that the Truck accelerated to a high speed in a very short distance. I'm not saying it was the truckers fault, but I think there were conditions that if were not present the accident would have been lessened or avoided altogether. I'm not blaming anyone for getting it wrong I know you were going off the reports. I agree with most of you that texting and teens are dangerous. I just wanted to set the record straight about this accident.

 

in the State of Nevada,
it is against the law for any driver, car, truck, pickup, etc, to hold the cell phone while driving. Posted at each state line.
When the law was created, it was made a Primary offense, meaning if law enforcement sees you holding the phone and driving, they can pull you over and cite you.

other states have a simluar law, but they only made it a secondary offense. Which in my opinion, is useless.

 

What happens when the patrol officer using the phone looks in the mirror and sees himself doing it?

 

other drivers didn't pullout in front of a 8' X 13' simi so they could see.....

"crash happened at 4:19 p.m" most city crews stop at 5:00 pm

really and just how do you know what UNUSUALLY FAST is the police didn't say he was speeding

thinks move A LOT in a crash, YOU don't know where the phone was when she hit the truck YOU weren't in the car...

from the car BEHIND he couldn't see if she was texting or not

he doesn't know

but you are by you keep saying he was going fast yet he wasn't speeding so why do you keep pointing it out

if she was texting or not we will never really know but she was young, it was her first time driving alone and did pull out in front of a simi and died and that is the sad part

 

I don't know about Nevada , but in California it is not illegal for police to use their cells phones while on duty driving,not that i think it is right that they do anymore then any one else.
