Even if he doesn't need a physical to get his permit, he might as well get it, because he won't be driving without it, right ?

I'm planning on going with Prime Inc. I talked to a recruiter and she said it wasn't necessary to have your CDL Permit but she recommended I go ahead and get it so I don't have that additional stress during orientation. I know once I go up to MO I will take their physicals before I go out with a trainer. That's why I was asking because I didn't know if I needed to get a med card here in Florida because I'm also going to have to do everything in Missouri as well.
Thanks,
TJ -
Don't know your age or physical strngth etc.....but for what it is worth--most company cdl med tests are total BS--if you are going to get your med on your on dime(even if they make you go to company doc later)then go to YOUR family doctor and get a full blown REAL physical--most of us DO NOT do this enough--an ounce of prevention--oh just check to see if your doc has the forms--if not you can pick up a packet at most any truckstop(at least for now)........

You can drive without it. You simply need to be with a licensed CDL-A holder in the cab when driving a truck with only a permit.
A driver could have a medical issue that he/she is planning on getting cleared up at some point during the six months for which the permit is valid. -
You obtained that erroneous information from the E-gears website (http://www.e-gears.com/florida-cdl-permit) or the private site mimicking the Florida DMV website (http://www.dmv.org/fl-florida/apply-cdl.php) not the Florida DMV REAL website (http://www.flhsmv.gov/ddl/cdl.html).
And they're wrong. It's like Beau3210 said. As residents of Florida, we went through the process. You don't need a medical exam for just the permit test. -
You don't need a medical card to go to the DMV and test for your permit. You WILL need a medical card to drive with the permit and test for your license. I walked into thr DMV with nothing and testrd out and got my permit before my school started.

I am in Prime Psd training at the moment and came from Florida. I obtained my CDL permit without needing a medical card and came to Prime with just the permit.
Just get your permit and come to Prime with that, you will get your medical card here once you get through orientation. It really is worth it to get your permit before arriving in Springfield!TJWCrews Thanks this. -
I changed my reply, I never meant to give the incorrect info.
We sent somebody for a permit just last week.
They needed a physical, to obtain a cdl permit. However that was for a school bus driver position.
So I assumed it applied to truck drivers also.
I apologize, and am glad I was corrected.
I am going down to the DMV today, and checking to make sure the bus driver needed one.
Carry-On...........

I would get a DOT physical anyway, before going to Sprinfield. Why make the trip, then find out you can't pass the physical; students are rejected every day for something like blood pressure or heart rate. You will still get another physical at the trucking company, but at least now you know you will pass.
SHO-TYME Thanks this.
