I tried every speed between 54 and 50. Now I'm driving at 50 mph because that's where I get the best fuel economy. I was getting 8.8 mpg loaded until I hit the mountains. That dropped me down to 8.2. If I can keep this up I may be out the red next pay period. Donner Pass lived up to the hype. I smoked one of my brakes. Other than that I'll post my fixed cost Friday.

Try to keep your turbo boost no higher than 10psi as much as possible- at least on one of the Freightliners. That helps quite a bit. Downshift on the grades early, and just don't worry about trying to keep your speed up.

I don't have a gauge to view how much boost I'm using. I downshift until I find a gear I can pull with between 1200 and 1300 rpm's.

Do any of the trucks coming have a boost gauge? How much would it be to have it added? Can you get approval to add one?

I don't know. I didn't ask. I haven't got to room on the dash for it anyway but you can ask them. They were very nice to me at Success Leasing.

I don't see that it would be a problem. OTOH, you could probably order one of Kevin Rutherford's scan gages, and pull boost pressure right off of the data bus in digital format. That's about $197.

Iowa80 sells instruments, and I imagine that the TA there wouldn't have a problem putting it in.

Thanks IP. Scan gauges would probably be the way to go on a lease.

There are even fewer gauges on a lightweight?! Strange.

That's the only one it doesn't have. They could take more for this fuel economy. Can't wait to see it work in the normal tanker lanes.

My lightweight had a turbo gauge, just left of the speedo.

That donner pass can be fun... Especially in winter w/ chain law and dot stopping everybody checking chains before you can go by.

Still better than trying to take that route when it was a wagon trail, getting trapped and eating each other to survive, right?
