I asked this over in Questions for new drivers, but I thought I would ask it here too.
I recently tried to start training with PAM in fort wayne, but i quit because i didnt like signing the paperwork saying i owed them $6000 or something if they didnt pass me, i didnt drive 1 year for them, or even if i was layed off. that also included the physical exam, hotel, etc. and also, if you read closely, your still on the hook even if you declare bankruptcy.
I liked CRST's program, a lot less money, and only need drive for them for 8 months. but i hear nothing but bad about them and CR England, and also it is all team driving, which i am not that interested in.
So my ideal would be: less then 1 year contract, solo driving after training, and school not far from michigan or north indiana, and reasonable school costs and re-embersements.
Also, I notices there is a Trainco driving school right here in Lansing. It costs $3995. I dont see any trucking companies will pay for or use this school. Any info on that?

Look into (Google) the Workforce Investment Act for your area. They put me throught school when I was laid off from my construction job.It cost me about $300 bucks outa pocket for the drug test, background check for hazmat, and the dmv charges. Then you can go to any company that hires newbs and you dont have a contract or the debt! Also, if you can come up with the money to pay for it yourself, most companies will reimburse you over your first year or so of employment.

all the company's offering CDL training will require you to sign a contract for driving or will charge you for the school. as for Trainco, I have not heard of them, but if they are a good CDL training school they will have company's that they place students with,if they dont have any they deal with, dont go to school there. Lansing is a great place to be living looking for a trucking company sponserd training.dont be afraid to sign just be sure a do your homework on them,it's generally the best way for new guys to in the industry now a days.it's not like it used be. good luck

Someone who lives near you recently posted a free school and then Corrigan Moving Systems hired most of the graduating class. Maybe contact Corrigan and ask what they know about it.
Also check Great American Trucking Company in Detroit about CDL school.Last edited: Feb 12, 2013

This is the absolute best way to attend truck driving school. There are no contracts to sign and the training is usually very cheap or fully paid for. There are some hoops to jump through but well worth it and you often get to choose the school you want to attend. Do your homework and find a school that trucking companies hire from and where the drive time is the highest.
