She has been good to me over the years. I have a n14 celect it started with a framing noise when I put it in a hard pull. Took it to shop they changed #3 inj. It had never ran this good since I bought it. That didn't last about 1hr. It went to acting up again back to the shop we put all new inj. In it the framing noise is gone. Now I have a tapping noise comming from #4 if I unplug it the tapping stops.shop guy is telling me head gasket. Anybody have any ideas.. thanks

I bought my first N14 about 4 months ago so still learning but maybe just a faulty injector? Are they cummins injectors or aftermarket?

When i was working at cummins cal pacific i had a n14 that had a independent shop put injectors it had a slight miss and a knocking noise so the new kid spent two days swapping injectors and putting a set of new injectors and still the same problem so the manager asked me to take a look so the first thing i did was run the overhead well when i came to #2 i couldn't get the injector adjustment right i could tell something was off anyone that has ever worked on a n14 knows whats coming next i looked down at the cam followers and found the injector push tube had been knocked out of its follower and was riding on the exhaust follower put it back in place adjusted the injector and problem solved moral of the story take a look at the followers and push tube you never know it could be your problem n14 are getting out dated not to many guys working on them anymore at least around my neck of the woods.
BoxCarKidd, Heavyd and nightmoves Thank this. -
We bought an N14 with a noise in it a couple years ago. Took it to the cummins guy,he said "I'll guarantee you that it is not a head gasket. Our local guy said it was a head gasket. They were both wrong. It had two blown head gaskets and the top of two liners were gone.

Hey guys I just bought a n14 plus 3 months ago. Apparently engine was rebuilt but only injectors 1 and 6 were replaced. I ran it for 7,000 miles and then did injector 5. I ran for another 6,000 miles and then set at cruising speed it began what I can only explain as a soft knock. I cut the cruise but it was worse with the Jake brake so I cut that too. Noise was nearly silent. I stepped into it again and it started again. I let off and then my oil pressure starting bouncing from 5 to 40. I instantly killed the engine and just like that my oil filler cap on valve cover one blew off. Just pulled to the side of the road. Waiting on tow truck. Antifreeze looks good. Oil looks good. There was white smoke rolling out of the filler cap hole. I popped off that valve cover and could not find anything amiss. Starter cannot crank engine at all. Any ideas on where to start once I get to the shop?

Was it cold out? If it was, my guess is the blowby pipe had an ice plug form inside, causing the crankcase pressure to blow the cap off.

New leaking head gaskets usually chirp under load and not with throttle released. Often caused by a broken head bolt. If caught early I have removed and replaced some with the head on.
