Texas just notified me I need to fill out a form (CDL-7 ) and attach a copy of my med card to it and send it in. It's a com. driver med. cert. enrollment notice. If I do not comply by
JANUARY 14, 2014 they will down grade my lic. to a non cdl and I would need to retest / road test to get it back.

What's really important here is that date and what they will do if you don't play ball.

I'm sure it's not just in Texas either.......I would check with my state if I hadn't heard anything yet.

AND for the players ( "any license holder that is delinquent on support payments must contact the A.G. to make satisfactory arrangements" ) was inserted in my letter as an additional reminder. ( not that I need to know that but maybe you do)

It has been discussed many times on here already.

They have been in the process of doing this nationwide as part of CDLIS.

I had to do mine January 2012. I just received another letter from them advising me that my medical card expires in October.

I would suggest you stay up on these dates now. RickG had issues with his medical card as well.

Tks RM....didn't know...only heard the talk. Prolly many others out there in same boat. So much yap out there right now it's hard to cull the good stuff.

I'm solid on the compliance thing too. Put 60 day alert in phone, set reminders elsewhere blah blah blah. Only concern is the understaffed civil servants on the other end. If they happen to drop the ball........

I'll give them a call in a month or so.......

    Tks....

Texas is waiting to the last minute.

All states have to be in compliance no later than January 30, 2014.

I recently renewed my CDL in CO and if it wasn't for this forum or trucking papers/mags I never would have been aware of these changes ---no letter from the Dept. of Revenue! The DMV worker told me that 10 days after your Med. Cert. expires you become medically decertified--30 days later you loose all driving rights--- but they just recently granted illegal aliens the right to obtain licenses!

I just went through the same thing in PA. I got the letter, telling me if I did not show proof to the state of my medical certification, they would take away my CDL classification, along with all it's endorsements.

I called the guy from the state, and asked what happens if I did not get the information to them soon enough, since they only gave me 2 weeks notice, and I was on the road. He told me that when the CDL classification gets removed, you have to go get a Class A permit, and then retest, as if I was a brand new driver.

I got my butt home, and got this thing out of the way, because there was just no way I would go through this whole process all over again.

    Just a note:
When they first started this new fiasco, you had to go back and re-submit any new medical cards as you received them. Failure to update the information will result in the same penalty. Now, when I get my new card, I go directly to the PA. Licensing Center near my house on the way home, and update the info. When I do, the new info is right in my DMV report from the state, if an employer requests one.

tennessee does the same thing now. i got my new car, scanned the card and long form and my DL, called nashville and got the CDL directors email address and emailed the forms to her. i then called back in an hour and she was entering my information in to the database as she was on the phone with me.

the letter they send gives you a 2 month notice on the med card. the form also states that failure to do so will result in the automatic downgrade to an operators license along with the suspension of endorsements.

GA does it too. my former boss delayed in taking care of his med card. he got it, but never sent it in to atlanta. he got the letter in the mail informing him of the loss of his CDL license.
