Finished my first week of training. I don't know if it is because I have some previous tanker experience but there really isn't much to it unless you are lazy or a plain moron. If you are someone who doesn't mind paying a little bit of attention when you work, then this is a good job.

One thing I will have to say is it depends on where you live. Where I was training, and where I will be working from, are not particularly "big city" areas. I doubt I would enjoy doing this type of work in NYC or Chicago. But for where I live, I can see myself enjoying quite well.

Kenan Advantage requires 2 years tractor trailer experience to get you in on gas hauling and yes, they do have a bunch of terminals in the Los Angeles area. Just google Kenan Advantage and go to their web page. It shows you where each of their locations are and gives you the qualifications they are looking for.

You only need to do 6 more months otr to qualify. I know that sucks right now but the time will fly. It seems like yesterday that I was getting my first two years experience and now I am on my 5th year of driving.

Kenan? Ok, A lot of their equipment looks rather sub-par when I see them in the racks... They will not haul, K1 as someone must have effed it up at one point. So, I have pulled some of that from them.

Often hear on one nine, hey Kenan... you gonna wash that truck and trailer this year?

Other than that, they may train you like a champ. LOL!

Oh yeah, Kenan was the only time I saw a trailer (brand new) sucked in by a pump.

As funny as it is. I have never seen nor heard of these types of situations in my division. Kenan (Kag) has quite a few remote yards. Where it is the drivers responsibility to take the truck and get it washed. Should be at least once a week. I work at a location where the trucks are well kept, always clean, aluminum polished, tires armor alled, etc.. The driver pride is strong. Plus my location has gone a long time without a single mistake. (knock on wood) Might be why we have been growing so much in the last year. We are currently looking for 30 drivers to put in trucks as we are taking over a major account in the area August 1st. If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, The growth is here.

As far as the LA area. I know last year those drivers voted in the Union and are currently trying to get the Union out. They are struggling down there due to none of the major companies want to do business with Union drivers. Kag lost a lot of business down there because of that. I think they have another 4 months give or take before the Union is out. Hopefully, they can regain some of what they lost.

In regards to what we haul. Again, it all depends on location. We do everything from Alcohols, Propane, Jet, Av Gas, to regular gasoline out of my location.

Sounds like shredfit has an ax to grind with Kenan. It is just like any other trucking company; it has its good and bad points. Most of the trucks at my locations are 2007 and newer and the tanks are well maintained.

You will find bad things like crumpled tanks due to driver error at just about any tanker job. It has nothing to do with Kenan training. There are lots of experienced drivers that get into bad accidents at ANY company.

Two weeks down for me and things are going well. The job is a little more physical than I thought it would be but maybe that is because I just finished this week where the temps were in the mid 90s with high humidity. :biggrin_2551: I like it and I am looking forward to getting out on my own in the next two weeks, if not sooner.
