DOT Drug Screening

Hi all,

I am starting CDL training on Monday, February 18.

I am a clean person. No drugs here (with the exception of occasional weed way back when I was in my teens and early 20's, but never grew into a problem and I havent done it in ages), so I am not worried as far as illicit drugs are concerned.

However, I had a bad tooth in the back and although it wasn't giving me pain, the cavity was big enough to hide a grapefruit in... and I figured I should take care of it instead of having the nerve come exposed when I am out with my trainer somewhere in the middle of Wyoming 200 miles from the closest dentist.

The tooth was so rugged and decayed that I needed an oral surgeon.

They put me under... And the woman did say that the drugs they used will fail in a DOT urine screening. But they wrote a note and said for them to call to confirm if neccesary.

The problem is - I also got an Rx for Vicodin to help with the pain. As long as I provide the DOT with the paperwork proving it was a legal Rx, I should be OK, right?

This is the only thing I am nervous about.

 

oh no no - it's fine, it's all fine... it's an Rx for about a 3 day supply to ease the pain as the gum heals. It wasn't your everyday tooth extraction. It was done by an oral surgeaon and there was a lot of cutting and a lot of bleeding and a nice, big hole... lol

I got an Rx for about 12 of them, I think... about 3 or 4 days. Yes, a legal perscription. I'll be done with them by Wednesday the 6th and I dont even start my class until the 18th out in Salt Lake City.

Yes, I do understand you can not drive on them, but I wont even be starting the classroom training for 12 days after I'll be done with them.

I'm not a big fan of pain killers, anyway, and if the pain isn't all that bad, I won't even finish them.

 

And yes, I made sure I told the surgeon that I needed documentation for everything. I got a note and I am also going to bring the receipt and all the papers involved with this.

The man even said the DOT officials can call his office if they need to.

Anyway, wow, that is the first time I ever been knocked out. I was nervous as hell - now I know how a convicted murderer feels when they execute him with the lethal injection LOL ... It was kind of scary. They gave me the needle and then put a thing over my nose to breath in, next thing I knew, ..... out like a light.

It seemed like only a second later I was awake again and they were like "ok, we're done!".

I have had many teeth pulled before, and let me tell you - it is the most pleasant way to have it done!

 

Yes, actually, I find that Aleve works pretty well. I took two of the Vics so far, but like I said - if the aleve does the trick, I won't even take the rest of them.

I am not very fond of any of these things, anyway, as they can lead to abuse. I just have a very low threshold for pain. lol - if something else does the trick that's not considered a narcotic, I would prefer that - as long as it takes the pain away.

I have to call my recruiter on Monday, anyway, so I'll see what he says. I'm sure it won't be a problem - like I said, I have all the paperwork and also, the oral surgeon said they can even call the office themselves to varify over the phone to make sure I'm not forging papers or anything like that.

I'm just nervous that they may assume I am abusing the drugs.
