how sensitive is your throttle ,most are electronic and can be adjusted for sensitivity . some drivers like a very responsive go pedal some like to move thier foot more which would help you get the feel easier and shifting will come easier. look at your rpm split when you upshift its the same when you downshift .....happy trails

don't worried about the splitter down shifting, i almost never split down on a 13 or 18. only time i split down is if im just about to crest a hill and need just a little more to get over. shouldent matter if your down shifting at 1400 1200 1000 unload the drive train slide it outta gear bump the rpms up about 400 from where your at and slide it in the next gear. if you let it get down to 1000 rpms you can drop 2 full gears from 9h to 7h by bumping the rpms about 800.

go slow and easy with it easy out of the pedal untill there is no load on the drive train and it slides right out of gear then just give a gental push on the pedal to start raising the rpms put the gear shifter lightly against the hole you want it to go into if you feel it slowly bumping against the gears and give it a little more rpm and the bumping gets faster back out of it just a touch till it falls in. if you give it a little more rpm and the bumping gets slower give it just a touch more rpm till it falls into place.

think of it as a woman two fingers and a light touch till they fall in.

Throttle application is best applied by smooth consistent foot movement. Next to manoeuvring a truck a skilled driver can work that big pedal like a $2 ......
