Rate/mile ????

    I live 15 miles from Fitzgerald and CB trucking runs those trucks. He is a family friend. He has a midroof I thought about asking if he would sell me when he gets ready to upgrade.I'm still undecided on stay flat or go reefer.
    Which has better rates? Will I get better mpg with a condo and a reefer? I get 7-8 mpg at 64mph in a flat loaded with 46-47 on with a cascadia.

    They DID have freight up here, there is freight up here to be had, the piss poor excuse for agents they have up here are to lazy to chase after it. It is no secret in this business (or any other for that matter) that no customer you have today will be yours tomorrow. You have to be willing to go out and sell your services, this is something that needs to be done on a constant basis. I have other ideas as to what is really going on with some of these agents, but that is for another thread, not this one.

    This is a fact, I had no choice, it got to be cheaper to bounce to the agents that had freight versus sitting at home watching my bank account slowly dwindle away.

    This is where you are mistaken, typically taking a load back into an 80 mile radius of home was pretty easy to do. Have I bounced a long ways to go back? Yes, out of Seattle once, Idaho back to the east side of Iowa once, and from Miami back to eastern Iowa once. The last two I was paid by the agent to bounce back there and reload for him.

    To the op of this thread, sorry for the hijack, but some things needed to be set straight. As far as Mercer is concerned, there is a whole other thread on them we can take this conversation to.

    I spoke with him last week and doing a few things first then I'm sending him my ECM, I was starting to think ill never get around to it I just get busy and don't like to have my truck down

    Id say getting a PrePass is a way to go. Definitely a fuel saver. About slowing down-dont really like rolling roadblocks.

    Again a smart driver gets a rate that allows him to make what he needs to be profitable and work at a comfortable efficient pace. Running like a raped ape is not the way a smart business owner makes his money.

    For all those years as a teamster grocery driver with a 57 mph cabover they were behind me so I wouldnt know.

    I don't know HOW many times I drive to Chicago and those two and side by side at 58 mph in a 65 or 70 mph speed zone.
