Any suggestions on getting a good price on a T660? This would be the first new truck that i'm getting from the dealer. Are prices on truckpaper pretty accurate? So far my plan is to find the best price on truckpaper then go to my local dealer and asking him to match. Good idea? Any other suggestions?

    trucks are liike cars.

buy a 1 year old instead. you won't lose the depreciation and the bugs will be worked out.

all brand new trucks spend there first year in the shop getting the bucks worked out.

Yeah I wouldn't buy a new one either I have a 2012 660 with same engine same tranny and same rear ends as the 09 Prostar I had which was pre def.... You would not believe the difference in power and fuel economy!!! I am talking 2-3mpg on a monthly average... For example I could go up monteagle going east the not so step side empty with the Prostar never miss a lick now the 660 I have to drp a gear or lug it me personally I would NOT buy a truck that uses def

In answer to MrPlow's questions about buying a new truck, three people so far have advised him not to buy a new truck or not to buy a new t660. I'm sure he appreciates your opinions. No one has answered his specific questions about how to get the best pricing on a new truck, though. Anyone have any insight into his questions?? I'm sure he'll make the right decision for him, whether to buy new or used when the time comes.

Same as buying a new car just do your research... Come up with a price that you don't want to go over and tell them you go this and want it this way and if they can't help you then go to another one it's not rocket science..... We're just advising him that his best deal would be used not new.

I have a question, bigfoot350, on used verses new, and some thoughts about used trucks. There seems to be a lot of used trucks on the market. It may be like used cars. My last vehicle I bought new and kept 16 years and 226,000 miles. I have a hard time understanding why people would buy a new vehicle, trading it off fairly quickly, except possibly that people get tired of cars pretty quickly and want the newest and latest. Is it this way with class 8 trucks? What an investment to buy a new class 8 truck!!! Wow! Why would someone trade off or want to sell a low mileage truck? I think they'd take a tremendous HIT in depreciation! Or could it be that there are many lemons in class 8 trucks and people are constantly selling lower mileage trucks looking for a model that gets better mileage/less break downs,...? Just curious about the mentality.

Also, when pre def trucks are no longer available (all are worn out), everyone is going to struggle with bad mileage,... unless there's a major change in manufacturing standards and government interference in pollution standards... Is this correct?

    Thanks,
    Dan

Thinking he is looking for more than just what research on his own can provide. I have never bought a brand new truck & have no clue what sort of discount to even look for, much less get?

When buying my first used truck, I asked for *I think* $1,000 off of a truck that had been sitting for a while. The asking price was $18,900 & they looked at me like I was insane. Later that day they told they had received another offer & was sure they were full of it. They were not, later that afternoon it was gone.

Two weeks later I bought a truck that had just been traded the previous day & made a similar offer(same dealership), but told them I would detail/polish etc & to leave out the extras. It worked.

That said, with the current inflated price of used & the obvious of paying through the nose on new. I think it is a very fair question to ask & get more responses of how much(either dollar or percent off) single owner operators can expect when buying in todays market.

What is the best, most reliable , best value for the money... Make of class 8 truck out there? Lets see, there's Freightliner, Mack, Kenworth, International, Volvo, and some other's I'm sure I'm missing. There's probably many different answers to this question. Just curious if there's one "stand out" otr manufacturer that you generally won't go wrong with?

That's a question that really can't be answered, you will get more brand loyalty(opinions) than you will get facts.
