Howdy y'all, my wife and I are recent CDL grads and have been offered a spot in orientation at West Memphis and would like to hear from any teams currently running with Schneider; we're not looking to hear from the nay-sayers or those that don't actually drive (solo or otherwise) for SNI, only those currently running as an OTR team for SNI. We're looking for actual miles run, time spent waiting, drop and hook vs live load/unload, preplanned loads, how SNI dispatches teams, etc. We're both tanker, double/triple, and HAZMAT certified also. We have also been offered spots with Covenant and US Xpress but haven't decided on a company yet.
A bit of background on us; I'm a newly retired 30 year Naval officer that has no desire to remain in the aviation community nor do I desire to be a manager or government employee. My wife is a high school English teacher for the last seven years and prior to that was a managing editor with the Dallas Morning News. I have a couple of years experience, albeit 30+ years ago, driving OTR and my wife is brand new to the industry.
Any input is greatly appreciated.
Husband and Wife Team looking at SNI

Thanks for your service. I can't answer your questions as they relate to teams but they do seem to get priority dispatch.
I posted to say that. I don't recall many if any teams who post here from SNI. That could be due to being busy?
Good luck whichever Co. you choose.Phil D Thanks this. -
I drove teams for SNI in 2011. You will get 5-6k miles per week, mostly drop and hook. Team drivers do well, they really keep you moving. And the best equipment also.

I drove team for Schneider in the very recent past ......for a month. I was brand new out of CDL school as was my co-driver and they issued us a 2013 Cascadia with 95K on the odometer. They constantly kept us rolling and all loads were drop and hook. Teams are supposed to get priority maintenance as well but, having such a new truck we never got a chance to test that theory. We stopped teaming for 2 reasons....1.) We both have Type A personalities. 2.) It was just too much time in the truck for our liking.
You will roll almost constantly and although I got used to sleeping while the truck was moving, I never really got that deep REM sleep that we all need. Keep in mind that I am a single male with no family members nearby (kids live in Hawaii) and all of my household goods in storage. So, what I am trying to say is that I was (or thought I was) in the perfect situation for teaming.....it wasn't about me missing my family or friends etc., it was just too much truck time. Now that I have switched to solo driving, I am much, much happier! The 10 hr. mandatory break every day is awesome! Pay....teams get paid .03 cents more per mile than solo drivers do. However, carefully consider what you must endure to earn that additional .03 cents. I always heard people say that teams earn more......and they do......but they work for every single penny of it. Best of luck with whatever you decide.Last edited: Jul 18, 2013

Thanks for the input so far, we're really looking forward to doing something totally different for a change. We're fortunate to have all six of the kids out of the house and on their own so we don't have anything tying us to home time if we're out four or more weeks at a time. We're also fortunate that we have a retirement check coming in every month so the slow freight months or occasional slow week won't hurt too bad. Again, thanks for the comments. Be safe out there.

I also teamed with Schneider. But it was back in 2000. The truck only stopped for fuel, food, and a shower. Usually in same stop. You must remind your teamer. Pull over if they get tired. No matter what. New beav is right. They get better equipment. Good Luck.Phil D Thanks this.
