I have a good job and I run the routes I choose. I just thought I would share this oppertunity here because Knight Refrigerated only hired experianced drivers in the past. So in a way you are right, you ALWAYS find what you are looking for, good or bad.

I do not know the details, I know two drivers that did not need expensive driving school to work here, getting paid to learn or paying to learn, seems like a no-brainer. all I can say is check it out.

I honestly do not have all the information on this new program because Knight Refrigerated only hired experianced drivers in the past. So find out for yourself, maybe it is not your cup of tea. Getting paid to get a CDL and the chance to work in a company that lets you choose the routes you run. Some will like it and some would rather pay a school big bucks. Information is a good thing. -

Only the finest for you, my friend. At Knight Refrigerated we actually get to know the folks working in the office. Just come on in and wonder around and meet people. Filled out an app. on 7/31 and was contacted by e-mail and phone message. In the last two days I have tried once by e-mail and 3 times by phone and still have not heard anything more.

I haven't seen ANY other company charge a fee just to apply. That's a deal killer right there. And they need to update their website. It says 6+ months of recent experience is required, yet they have training facilities as if they've been training inexperienced drivers all along. I guess their need to hire newbies fluctuates with the wind, with a website that can't be updated that often. It's vague, and you can't make sense out of exactly what's really required in order to train from scratch. 4 to 5 months on the road with a trainer if you show up with your CDL already? Really? Never heard of another company doing that either. Which makes you wonder if they're just milking you on the cheap with a flat weekly rate for as long as possible. Where else does it take 4 months beyond CDL training to go solo?

Then another page says it's 4-6 weeks with a trainer, but that training continues 4-6 months. Where? For what?

Tuition reimbursement? How does that work?
They just seem vague, if not complicated.
I'd never get hired there. The recruiter would say 'this guy asks too many questions' and my experience with low-paying jobs has been that they don't want you asking too many questions about the terms of employment or benefits. They don't need to answer all that, as they can just say 'next?' and there are others who are willing to be herded like cattle, whatever the terms. Not all of us are desperate. I'm not near as concerned about what the terms are, as long as they're clear and explained to me without having to pull teeth to get answers, and the company keeps their word.Last edited: Aug 6, 2013

I don't think they need people very badly. Maybe that's good. Maybe it means turnover is less than other places and it's not a revolving door puppy mill. Wish I could find a company that doesn't have to be a 'bottom feeder' AND acts like they need good people, NOW. People who have worked for good companies in whatever fields, and dealt with good recruiters, know that it's impressive to see when they're as interested in you as you are in them, even when they aren't desperate at all. It says something about the way they do business. If you're put on hold now, imagine how you'll be put on hold once they've reeled you in. Kinda makes you wonder also how long they take to give attention to a potential shipping customer who calls from an area your sitting in, waiting for a load.

CDL Training Fees
Trainee fees for Range and Road training (including hotel and transportation)
$3,000
Trainee fees for Range and road training (without hotel and transportation)
$2,500
Non-refundable application fee
$100
Approved trainees who attend the CDL course will sign a training agreement and will be paid a salary, as a Trainee Employee, of $400 weekly.
CDL training fees can be paid through the following two plans: Plan 1: Trainee CDL training fees paid in full
Trainees who pay fees in full prior to training will be provided a 10% discount of the Range and Road training fee.
Plan 2: Trainee CDL training fees financed (0% Interest Financing)
Trainees who elect to finance the remained fees owed will agree to a weekly deduction of $50 from payroll until the balance due is paid in full.

An application fee shouldn't be a deal killer. Many immature people apply for jobs & quit over some minor reason; maybe no creamer for the coffee, or now that they have a job, they realize they can't sleep till noon every day. If I was unemployed I would be happy to pay an application fee to a company willing to hire and train me. I might be willing to pay it as well, if I get it back when they don't hire me. Did you miss the words NON-REFUNDABLE? If they aren't willing to hire and train me, after I met their posted qualifications, then I'd want my $100 back. That's only fair. Name another trucking company that charges an application fee, much less a non-refundable one. I've looked into many and haven't found one yet. Deal killer. If they wanna miss out on good people because if it, it's their loss.
And not everyone who applies is unemployed. If they are, they're the last people who can afford to waste $100 for no job.
