I have always thought drivers should be able to consume alcohol reasonably when they aren't going to be driving. The unfortunate reality is that it will take only one dimwit who got his CDL by the grace of God to be the one who drinks an unreasonable amount of alcohol, and kills multiple people in a totally preventable crash had he not had been above the BAC. And that's when the smart companies will do everything they can to keep you from a can of beer.

Still it seems a bit dumb to have a 6 pack in the truck, drink and then even think about driving. It should be removed from the truck completely. It's the same as a pilot drinking on a plane. You have a multi-ton vehicle capable of a large amount of damage under your control. Off time, sure, but keep it away from the truck.

I think it depends on the company. On home time that's my time, I will do as I please though I have a rule about not drinking 24 hours before leaving the house on a dispatch. Just personal rule. I usually go get three or four 24-packs of bud light the day I get home. Then leave out of the house after 4-5 days of home time. Though I still don't drink before leaving on dispatch.

Alcohol is a drug, same as nicotine, caffeine and prescribed meds. Just a legal one.

Yes it's a store. The majority of the customers are truck drivers. The majority of people buying beer are truck drivers going back to their rig with a 6 pack in hand. You can't deny that.

They say alcohol and tobacco are the two majorly abused "legal" drugs. I say it's BS.

No I could deny it seeing as tons of 4 wheelers go into 'truck stops' as well but I won't since it looks like it will be an exercise in futility.

That's probably true, but why would you as a responsible driver do that? Go to a bar or something and sleep it off. There is no excuse to have alcohol in your rig (in my opinion).
