Over Time Pay For Local Drivers ?

im a "local" driver in ny, used to do otr but now i just run upstate NY to nyc / long island every day. about 500 miles a day, now i work by mileage and stop pay, another company i worked for paid local guys hourly and the regional drivers mileage. i think its companies decision. nobody is being forced to work for either if they don't want to you know what i mean?

 

yeah they quit paying OT when they noticed the drivers were bringing a pillow to work with them... ( not joking, i know of a company here in NY same thing )

 

It's legal. Trucking companies are exempt from paying OT wages. Those that do either do so by choice or are unionized.

You're right; I once worked for a company that paid OT and lazy drivers ruined it for everyone. The terminal manager raided the trucks one day & found tons of pillows, blankets, portable TV's, reading materials, etc. Some of the drivers even had homemade beds that could fit across the two seats & put a sleeping bag on top of that. These were day cab trucks. The company put EOBR's in because of that.

 

yep, a lot of local hourly companies won't pay o.t. til after 50 hrs worked. total b.s.

 

I drive a day cab, am not hourly, and I'd have all that stuff if there was room for it. Doesn't anyone do a live load anymore?!

 

Truck drivers are exempt from overtime pay. Companies do not have to pay it.
