I apologize if its been discussed but I didnt see a topic, how do the express lanes work and do you make enough money doing it?
I am looking into companies that can offer me more home time so I can see my wife and kids more. I saw they have a 7on/7off etc but wondering if you even make enough taking 2 weeks off during a month.

Does knight offer any local stuff or only western regional and otr?

I might just go with a local company back home but looking at options.

The 7/7 is a part time position. You will get no benefits with that schedule.

Should be plenty of tanker jobs around Bakersfield; asphalt plants, refineries, home most every day. Check Careerbuilder and Indeed websites.

I agree. Many of those jobs are 'who you know' to get a toe in the door tho.

I spent 5 yrs w/Knight driving what was then called 'Express' w/benefits at 7-10 days out and 3 days off. Made about $25-30K/yr, but home time was the main reason I chose it.

If you 'need' $40K+/yr, its the usual 3 wks out/3 days off routine of most companies...

It's been 5 yrs since I worked @Knight, but the 7/7 was classified as being a 'Casual' driver (no benefits), usually by those in/near retirement to 'supplement' their pensions!

    EDIT: A general btw,

For the drivers who want home time 'often,' that forces Knight to keep those drivers near home so as to ensure getting them back on time. Ergo, shorter runs and less $ in general!

CT is correct. Also look into the LTL gig (if you don't mind fingerprinting freight). It too will have you home every night and pay you (rather nicely) by the hour. Good luck in whatever you choose and please remember, your kids are only young once. You don't get a second chance to watch them grow up my man.... ;-)

yeah my kids are the main reason im looking, have 2 daughter 5 yrs old and 9 months and im missing out on a lot right now.

I ran into an old high school friend on facebook who is an operations manager at a hazmat transportation and disposal company out of Bakersfield who said come see him when I get my hazmat so im going to find some sources and start studying, they pay $18-20 a hour starting and he said your normally gone 2-3 nights at a time going to Nevada and Arizona and its overtime after 40 hours. He said he has hired a few who were OTR and they stay with the company since its more money and home much more.

Now to find some studying sources so I can take the test when I go home in a couple weeks.
