Gotta agree w/most here and I do not wanna add up the $$$$$ I have tied up in tools almost exclusively Snap-on & Mac
But when it comes to bikes--(and I have 3 and drag raced(fuel bike)for years)I find my self using my 1/4 drive stuff more n anything--buddy of mine has a full Set of what Craftsmen calls there Professional grade or whatever(made to look like SO) and I gotta tell ya they don't feel bad and fit pretty well even this style ratchet is far superior to standard sears stuff and considering the price diff and the fact U R NOT trying to make a living w/em---might b worth checkin out
    Just a thought

Get what you pay for disposable tools or tools that last a lifetime. buy once and be done or just keep buying to replace broken junk.

this is like the question, should I buy a peterbuilt or will another truck do? response... if you want to be a truck driver nothing less than the best & most expensive should be considered. you do generally get what ya pay for, but why pay for something that will handle 4000 lbs of torque when your never going to need more than 500 lbs. I have a lot of harbor freight hand tools, for simple things like air lines, side marker lights, & a lot of other misc parts, that any tool will do. I also have husky brand from the home depot that is more than adequate for any job. replacement is not question. bring any tool for free replacement no questions asked. all the tools mentioned will do. having a $20.00 5/16 wrench by snap on to tighten/loosen hose clamps, to me is a waste of MY money. however there is nothing wrong with spending the most to get the best, if that is what you want or think you need. just like which tire to buy? Oh it has to be michelin cause it's the best, it must be best cause it cost the most. to each his own. the quality is there with snap on, so is overkill if ya know what I mean.

Someone recently told me Snap On is now being made in China/Japan(i dont remember which one). It would be a shame, it that is true. But then again, it doesnt seem right, John Deere tractors(as with hundreds of items) being made overseas.
    This country is mucked...:biggrin_25513:

I needed a bearing packer. You know....the kind you put the bearing into then step on it?

Mac wanted $65, but Sears had the Craftsman for $25. IT WAS THE EXACT SAME BEARING PACKER !!!

It was the same color and had the same numbers embedded in the plastic :biggrin_25510:

Try Cobalt tools from Lowes.Pretty good quality and price as well as lifetime warranty.Same with Craftsman. I believe Snap-On owns the Cobalt brand as well. I have good luck with cheap impact sockets which is all I buy now.The last impact sockets I bought from Snap-On were over $600 for a rack of 10. Don`t know what they cost now.I get impact sockets from Harbor Freight, but not much else.

I got my licence as a mechanic in 1973, some specialty tools, I use Snap-on, specialty sockets, some ratchets, Mac I have 12 point impacts, Most everything else is Craftsman, I have sets of Westward wrenches they are thinner. I did engines most of my life and have modified lots of tools for special applications, welding a socket into a box-end wrench for different tune up applications.
My tools were stolen, I bought a full set of Craftsman tools they come in sets, If you have the money that is the only way to go. Tools do not make a Mechanic spending a fortune on a set of tools is stupid. A customer wants you to fix his problem, he does not care if your tools are shiny, the work order will not have a bonus if you have snap-on. I bought a Waterloo Magnum tool box set. It stayed home, my work tools were a combination of tools needed to do the job.
A very smart guy I knew, he use to say you can buy Snap-on, or buy Craftsman and beer!
    Just a thought!

Ok so I got a craftsmen box, couldn't bring myself to buy a snap-on box.....took inventory of my tools, cleaned and .kept all the decent stuff. Mostly craftsmen , that I've bought over the years. And a little bit of snap-on mostly my fathers stuff.....
Then I ambushed the snap-on man at the local car dealership...... With my list. I was like a kid in a candy store .
Some of the things he didn't have on the truck.... And I'll pick them up next week.

I will say I feel for you guys that make a living turning wrenches ....
I thought fast bikes and big trucks were expensive , but tools got them both beat by a mile !

My wrenches mostly work on these...
