I have to agree with kyle. I think we all know that many people don't get over for someone on the shoulder. Putting yourself out there purposely to be close to the danger is not a smart move. You're just asking to get hit.
You're right that people need to do the right and courteous thing. You also have to use common sense in that situation and keep yourself out of danger.

unless its a super single or a steer tire that went flat you should always just slow down and find a safe place to find repairs. if one finds themselves on the side of the road limit your exposure to traffic as to many people are to inattentive or impatiant to express common sense................happy trails

Was a flatbed on the right shoulder one day. I hit my signal to move left, but of course the four wheelers saw that as me saying "hurry up and pass me on the left! Come on, next guy too, you can make it!" I crowded the left as much as I dared. Right as I go by, the driver pops out from under the flatbed trailer and walks up to his cab between his truck and me. He never even looked for traffic coming towards him! I got to believe this idiot will end up a statistic soon.

Personally when I have a drive or trailer blow out I continue down the road with my flashers on to the nearest exit for the safety of myself and all other motorist.
The side of the road is no place to sit just over a blow out.Giggles the Original and reefer75 Thank this. -

i started out in trucking as a tow truck driver working police calls and motor club calls on every major highway in the st louis area and learned to jump over my flatbed several times. i never turn my back on traffic now as a habit learned then. i move over all the time for anything on the side. what looks like a parked four wheeler can suddenly have the drivers door swing wide open into the traffic lane simply because joe 4 wheeler has no idea that his door is longer then he has left room for

I was changing a trailer tire on the shoulder and had a van get close to me on a 4 lane and he had no one around him, I ducked against the trailer and flipped him off as he went by. When I got to Columbus, GA, I stopped at a light and he pulled up beside me and flipped me off, I got out and walked to his van and his kids learned some new words that day......

Being a non-big box driver. As well as raised in new York. I have gotten out of my truck on numerous occasions. A verbal attitude adjustment, does get a driver 4 wheeler or big trucks attention fast.
But as you said. Never get out of your vehicle. The younger drivers need to heed this warning. You never know who you come up against. -
Back to subject I get nervous when I cant get over away like the one post said about the guy walking out not even looking at traffic I will get over or slow way down
