The only thing I can say about the Pete 587 is that it looks to be the exact same as the T700 so that is why I would not choose that one. As far as Volvo goes, most of them use Volvo specific parts made by Volvo (engine, trans, rears?) so your repair locations may be limited. With KW and Pete, they run eaton trans, Spicer rears, Cummins motors so you can take them to any repair shop and have the basics easily fixed. I would say go test drive these trucks and find the one that you are most comfortable in. Try a T 660 to. You can get them spec'd with a flat top sleeper and heavier suspension like a T800 and have a little more aerodynamic hood for fuel economy if you desire.

You can get a volvo with a cummins, eaton and rears of your choice. You do have the option of going with their D13 and Ishift though.
My opinion is that Volvo has figured out the emissions for new trucks better than cummins has. I know of one owner that gets better mileage out of his Mack (volvo motor branded as a mack) than his Cummins in a T800.daytonaoh Thanks this. -
What about freghtliner Cascadia.
#1 consideration - cost of ownership [fuel, replacement parts, insurance]
With the Detroit, its the highest MPG truck on the road. Fuel cost would be lowest. Its way cheaper to maintain then a Volvo and a bit cheaper then a KW or Pete. Parts are much easier to find and available in more locations across the US.
#2 - driver's comfort
Volvo will be the best, but Cascadia has a better ride then KW or Pete. Controls are laid out better in Cascadia to. Actual comfort, (seat, ergonomics, display etc.) is great in a Cascadia. Cascadia also turns sharper then any of the others making it easier to maneuver in tight areas.
#3 re-sale value
Pete and KW will win here, but consider this.
1,000,000 miles over truck life. Fuel cost 3.75 (conservative) MPG numbers will vary, but the Cascadia will get better MPG no mater what kind of freight your hauling.
KW & Pete 7 MPG $535,714 in fuel
Cascadia 7.5 MPG $500,000 in fuel (35,714 in fuel savings)
Yes, the KW and pete may sell for more money, but will a Million mile truck sell for 35 grand more? Your fuel savings will end up paying for the loss in resale value. With a higher fuel cost the savings go up. This doesn't even take into account the added saving from maintenance. -
I am so sad that dog faces got the winners.
Im sorry for team drivers in those trucks. Looks like they rub on each other if they both in seats. -
Cascadia is ugly. And all FL are. ) Bio design looks outdated, some engineering decisions are at least strange. For example, huge headlight, which became dull and muddy because of big surface (same mistake as volvo did).
Another wide spreader fairy-tale is maintenance. Its same expensive as volvo and paccar brands. A friend of mine had FL with Detroit 500 Fuller 13. We compared our expenses and they where similar. Needless to say that he did swap 2 turbos for 6 month (?!). That is "famous" detroit dependability and reliability. Also he was suffering poor mileage. Besides, diesel fuel begin to penetrate cooling system through injector gasket.Fantastic.
And one more fact. I used to change my volvo's radiator for $740+labor. Another friend with Pete refused to pick his radiator for $2600 parts only (!). Thats about so called "expensive" volvo parts.
Drivers comfort. Long time ago volvo was a leader, but now priority have changed. KW is better than volvo on a highway, volvo is very soft and unstable, especially in a high cross winds. Also steering feels very "empty" (lousy) on a highway, so you have to keep steering tight to stay on the road. Noise comfort better in contemporary KW and FL. I use to change muffler in my '05 volvo 670 and it sounds much worse than in was before. Dont forget volvo is manufacturing that old crappy design for more than 10 years now, and there are absolutely ZERO improvement over years: same or even MORE ugly upholstery colors, etc, etc. And as I know, they still don't provide full transmission lock - just lousy inter-axle. Joke!
Cummins/Paccar's got the same or better mileage. Calculation is incorrect. -
t680.
Best aerodynamics for today. -
660 ought to be on that list. Never had a favorite truck until I drove this one. Had trucks that I didn't particularly care for, though.
Fuel economy in my 660 blows away anything else I've ever driven, including FL's. I'm shocked about that. Wasn't expecting it to be this high. Your personal experience may vary, but that has been my experience.
Being forced to choose from your list, I would go with the 700, probably; although, that big ### filter on a paccar is #### hard to change out yourself on that particular model. -
On t680 it should be even better )
-
Your list is incomplete.......
