So, it looks like you have gotten through that first tough year in good shape, and now it is getting easier. I am planning to go with Con-way right now, but I could end up going with Swift in the end. I have followed this thread from start to finish. It is nice to see a driver roll well with the punches and maintain a positive attitude through that first year. So you don't even own a car and park it at the terminal while on the road?

Thanks for reading!! Good luck with whoever you decide to go with!! I gave up my car because I hardy would see it. I saw it as a waste of money. I was paying over 600 a month just for the note and insurance plus I had other bills. These days I only have my phone bill so I can save and do what I enjoy with what im making each week. Its going pretty good!:)

Welcome back, I am 11 days with my mentor now. He is also dedicated. Malt O Meal and runs between Minnesota and SLC. So far he has been great. I am getting over my fear of busy truckstops.

Congrats, hope it continues to go well for you!! I remember I was nervous going into busy truckstops. I just take it slow and if its early enough find a spot that I wont have to worry about getting blocked/ facing another truck. With a trainer have to learn how to get in and out but when youre solo I would look for the ideal spots if able to park early enough.

Dedicated is really nice. Traveling the same roads can be great. Ive seen enough of unknown places for right now. In a truck anyway. I plan on getting a car and going some nice places when I get vacation time! Everything is really great I cant complain about anything. :)

Wow, if I were a recruiter you'd be a STAR recruit!! Sounds like you're more than ready to start your training. Don't think you really need driving record,as I'm pretty sure Swift people checked you out before enrolling you in their school. If they are willing to pay your tuition, they'd make sure you qualify to drive for them as I'm sure you heard the catch for them to train you. Good luck in your new career!!

Congrats on 1st year!! Sorry wasnt paying attention to original posting date BUT meant what I said anyway!! If you'll be in TX and go to Laredo, maybe you'll get to what used to be our old MS Carriers terminal which was by the Pilot truckstop there but I don't know if Swift still operates it. My old company, MS Carriers merged with Swift in 2001, so I only worked for Swift for 3 weeks before I jumped ship and went to Ruan out of Des Moines,IA.

It felt good changing (trucker?) from 0-1 year to 1 year! I am extremely thankful for the opportunity. I had my bad days but nothing that was worth giving up over. Had my scary days but I slowed down thought it over and got out of the situation (s) that I placed myself in. I'm still driving dedicated and it has been a great move for me. I dont regret starting at swift and I'm glad that I went ahead with them from the start.

Ive heard the stories, people who have worked for them weeks, months, or years ago, even from those who still work for them but from my experience, they've made it what it is for them. I have a great terminal. A great DL and a great contact on dedicated account. It hasn't always been good but it hasn't been something to cry, moan, and complain endlessly over and run away.

Work with some great people, I can't wait to make more years! Thanks to everyone who has given me advice and tips along the way. It's helped through everything.cant say thank you enough. Have a good one guys!!

Everyone who has said once you get a year in youll start making more has been absolutely correct. One week after I made a year experience I made more than I made one week before that point. Honestly it felt like something took over and the "drive" was there for me. Being on home depot account did help being salary and also getting in and out of some sticky situations I placed myself in. But my first week back otr was unbelievable. It surprised me. Ive made money before sure and I was happy with what I made week in and week out but im happier with what I made that first week otr. Hope that that continues. Im pleased. Cant say it enough. Hoping everyone is having the same experience. Later
