Good for you LMB... Me, 44,145 in the box with my 2007 Columbia...Up Fancy Gap today...7th gear most of the way, 25-30 mph. Ugh. Didn't know if I was gonna make it! I know I made a bad decision with this Freightliner - the Cat engine sounds like a lawnmower going up zee hills... They may not have any more Volvos for a while, but the first of Oct. they are going to bring in two more leasing companies - which will allow a wider choice of trucks. My fuel mileage has been terrible too, around 5.0 - 5.5, but they're working with me in a couple of ways to help out. Until October I have to grin and bear it, I guess.
Also, I took a hard look at the mileage pay program that starts tomorrow - and what I found is, just based on my two trips so far, so it's a small sample - but from what I can tell, on trips where there is no deadhead, or say 20 miles or less, things will come out about equal. On trips with long deadheads, mileage will actually pay better. You will actually MAKE money on the DHs at .90, after fuel. Also no more reefer fuel payments. We will no longer get fuel surcharges on the DHs, but the .90 covers that and some. I will post my findings on here next time I'm home - I did a "worksheet" on the two trips, and that's what I found anyway, for what little that's be worth... I signed up for it. -
Let me know how that works out for you. I had a 4 tripper this week with 650 total miles DH. After fuel and fixed costs, I will net $1683.00. My mpg is a lot better than yours though, so you can't judge by my figuresFrank Acavano Thanks this.

Well, you're doing great pal as is...but you DID do a lot of deadheading this week, eh? I used a conservative FSC to compute earnings in the mileage program...it's based on the national DOE average for the week, and your recruiter can give you a copy of how it will be figured from now on. Got mine from Candice...and I used an average fuel price of $3.75, which I think is low, just to be safe. Which translates to a FSC of .43/cpm. The formula to test your % pay versus mileage is this:
Mileage plan: Take your loaded miles X $1 (assuming the trip is greater than 550 miles). Then for your DH miles, add .90 per mile.
Then add the FSC which will be loaded miles X .43, just to use a conservative example. This result will be your pay for the trip under mileage.
To compare them, remember you must deduct your reefer fuel expenses under the % plan, but not the mileage plan. Leave out other incidentals like detention, extra stops, lumpers, etc, because they will stay the same under both scenarios. If you take your load sheets from your four trips this week, you can do the comparisons yourself. Of course, a trip less than 550 miles will pay slightly higher than $1.00 per mile. Confused?
