Try the Hope grant which pays for CDL school with lottery proceeds in GA.

Central Refrigerated is good; many women go through their training.

Millis is good & you need $500.00 to start.

CRST does a lot of work in GA & their website says they will pay your CDL school tuition for you if you will work for them for 8 months after graduation.

You will be treated just fine in trucking; don't worry about that at all.

There will be jerk drivers who will disrespect you because you're a woman. Just keep in mind the real professionals in this industry will have your back no matter what. Good luck.

Copy the PackRat- there is getting to be more and more women in trucking, and 90% of them will tell you that this industry is not easy on a woman. It never has been and most likely never will be. Racism is another never-ending issue out here that has been in place since before I started pushing Road Iron. You'll. be alright-dau by day....step by step..... you can do it...I have heard good things about Central for training,

From what I've seen a large number of drivers will disrespect you. It's unfortunate but that's what I have seen and no, I'm not a female, so I really couldn't tell you for sure. I do know this though and I've said it before........If you go into the trucking industry broke and desperate you will probably leave it more broke and more desperate. I wish you luck in whatever you do but I would avoid company sponsored training at all costs.

I never had any issues out there on the road. Ran across the occasional idiot that needed to learn their place, but never really dealt with a lot of crap about being a woman.

I'd sure like to know where you have been to see that. It's not the case at all. There are some idiots out there, but it's not that bad. I started back in 1999, when there were even less women out there than there are now.

Got a funny story regarding women and trucking. I was stopped overnight in Denver a while back and my cousins Wendy and Tracy offered to take me out to dinner. I was at the Sapp Brothers . I told they to park on the street and I'd give them a tour of my truck as neither one had ever been in one. When they got there I walked out to the street and we walked back to my truck. Now my cousins are both in their mid 40s but don't look it. They were dressed pretty nicely and I could tell every eye of every driver in the lot was on us as we got in my truck. After a quick tour we got out and went to dinner and when I told them about the other drivers staring we al had a good laugh about it.!

I wish I could tell you but I won't mention the company for several reasons. I have worked for some companies where women were respected, at least from what I saw; however, one place in particular was so bad it was sickening. I'm glad you have had a positive experience.
