i used to work for Pepsi (union) and i used to talk to the otr drivers and they would ask how much we would bring home and look almost startled... he asked our hourly wage (24.75) at the time and looked disgusted. It's all about preference if you like the hwy then otr is for you. personally i like local i'll take the good and bad but as long as i have expenses then i will be driving

    jules,

I know what you mean about the looks. When I worked for Pepsi in the mid 90's, we were making a little over $19.00 per hour. Good money when you added up your weekly hours. Some of these OTR drivers would look at you like had a third eye when they asked how we were paid and I told them. I really can't blame them. I still run into OTR drivers today and they can't believe the wages we get now. Believe me, I have heard many sad stories from them as well as the posts here. Some people truly enjoy OTR trucking and I am happy for them. unfortunately, there are a lot of drivers out there who are just trying to make ends meet. I feel for them. I know that I would not like to be away from family and friends for weeks on end. Could I do it? Yes, but only if I had to and then I hope it would be for a very short time. There is good and bad with every job. The difference is that you are paid (hopefully) by the hour.

    MorrisGray,

I found that job because I was delivering CO2 to them. I would look up Pepsico on your computer. They used to post job openings there. If that does not work, try looking for Pepsi warehouses in you area. You can also look for Coke, 7-up and maybe some union beer distributors. I must tell you that there is quite a lot of work involved. You will hand unload anywhere from 600 to 1000+ cases from your truck. There is good money to be made but watch your back with the lifting and stacking of product. I left because I found a job that involved tankers. I really enjoy that type of work. They were a great company to work for. Hourly pay, paid medical, dental, retirement, sick days etc. I was also obviously home every night. Good luck on your search.

074344, you hit it right on the head man. I was working 1 day in the summer unloading 650+ cases and the next day i couldn't hardly move. Then it all went down hill from there. Also work isn't year round up here in new jersey you make most or your bacon from april-sept and get practically no hours through the rest of the week.if you are serious here is the web site i hope they're ok with this pepsico.com

I could use the physical work to lose some weight. I deliver and install TVs now but business has become so slow that I am getting fat.:biggrin_25523:

    jules,

I worked out of Buena Park CA. We were guaranteed 40 hours per week per the contract. There is a lot of overtime in the summer but in the winter it slows down. Yes, during the short time I was there, it was the summer. Great pay but a lot of work.
