The driver started fresh with a 14 hour period (after a 10 hour break) at
12:00 am. This means his 14 hour ended # 2:00 pm that same day (because 14 hours after 12:00 am is 2:00 pm). Now he only had 3 hours in the sleeper so this means it will NOT EXTEND the 14 hour clock. It takes 8 hours or more and it must be in the sleeper to extend the clock. So he drove his 11 hours by 2:00 pm and at that point he had 2 choices.. 1) take a full 10 hour break or 2) take an 8 hour SLEEPER break because he did have 2 hours off duty within his 14 hour period). So he takes 8 hours in the sleeper.
Now his 14 hour restarts at the end of the 2 hour break. So the driver must do this
1) Go to the end of the previous break (the 3 hour break) and count over 14 hours and make a mark on your log clock (top of the log grid where the clock marks are)
2) Go to the end of the previous break and look FORWARD and ask do I have 8 hours or MORE in the sleeper? If the answer is
Yes: then you count the total # of hours in the sleeper and you count over fron your 14 hour you figured on step 1, this is your final time you must stop driving and the time before the 8 and after the 8 should not total MORE than 11 hours of DRIVING time.
3) To figure out driving time available you just add up driving hours in between the 8 & 2 hour break and subtract it from 11, thats how many hours you can drive from the end of your break to the 14 hour mark.
Does this help? If not tell me

Ya i see it now but "he" already had in 11 hours--then he takes an 8 hour break so the new 14 starts when his last 3 hour break ended--right? So now he can count his 14 hour from when that break ended? as long as he dont go over 11 driving--right?
-
Right, so his "new" original 14 hour ended # 10:00 pm, however he did have 8 hours sleeper "after" that 3 hour break so he can extend it by 8 hours (or if it was 8.50 he could extend it by 8.5) which makes the 14 hour end # 6:00 am. Now the time from 8:00 am to 6:00 am he can not drive over 11 hours (line 3 only).
As you see I stopped driving before 6:00 am and took my 2 hour break, which now resets my 14 hour from the end of the 8 hour break, so count over 14 hours and now thats when my new 14 hour ends (no extension because I don't have 8 hours in the sleeper after that break).
I hope this is helping but it does take time to understand and many examples, DON'T GIVE UP

TY THE REAL BRICKMAN..........

Yes he counts over 14 hours, then he has the 8 hour sleeper break so that's when the 14 hour will end. The driving time prior to the 8 and after the 8 can not total more than 11 hours.
It takes many convos to really get it and once you get it then hey draw me some logs or give me some scenerios and I will see if they are legal
.
Or you can test yourself another way. Let me know when your ready for the test? -
I don't know much about the school itself but there is several here that went there
