I had 1 pair of caterpillar boots and was unimpressed. The leather over the steeltoes wore away after a month and within 6 months the sides were split out, stitching came loose, and the soles started coming apart. and the laces broke.

I am a bates fan. I did cemetery work in PA for 16 years and have worn bates for 15 of those years. Summer, winter, snow, rain, they held up. I wore them in snow and with double socks my feet stayed toasty. In wet weather I just bag my feet and they stayed dry. And they are very light. I haven't owned a pair of sneakers in well over a decade, I wear my boots everywhere. And I get the model with the zipper up the side so quick on and off. I replace my boots every year and have given my old pair to friends or employees that needed boots and many of them are still in use. Durable leather, stitching, and soles. Highly recommended by me and I have beat the wee out of these boots way more doing cemetery work than any driver ever would.

I spent the money and got a pair of red wing steel toe boots. The pair I got was 180 bt so comfortable. After going through cheap pairs of boots ever 3 months at 30-40 $ a pop. After talking to guys I worked with Fig I try better pair. So far these have lasted over a year and show little wear.

Next time you gotta buy a pair of boots try and get the Ariat work hog pull ons. I worked in the shipyard with these boots crawlin in and out of tanks and all through the aircraft carrier as a welder and also drive with them as well. They are probably the best boot ive ever worn and best looking too. Only problem is there a little price ($200) but if your willing to try em I dont think youd be disapointed. Also the most comfortable pull on i ever had. The pair i have now ive had for about a year but i tore em up and just ordered me an exact new pair yesterday.

Hiker's always worked for me. The wolverine durashocks already mentioned are comfortable, I always got them in Gortex and thinsulate. Rocky brand 6" hikers work good for me too, also in Gortex and thinsulate. When it's wet from snow and slush or rain your foots will thank you. I prefer leather so they can be polished and kept nice looking.
