Not sure if this is the right thread to drop this post in, so forgive and bear with me. In a couple weeks I'll be heading out to Indiana for orientation at Roehl Transport's terminal. According to the recruiter, I'll be driving a rented car down and staying with them for about 3 weeks. Upon completion and proof of my newly developed skills, I'll be assigned a tractor and sent home for 48 hours under load.

So, now that I've blurted out the backstory, here's my question.

I only have the faintest idea where I can park the trailer. So, is there anyone from around Michigan; that knows good legal places that allow truckers to leave trailers for up to 48 hours?

It's only an issue on account that I live in a mobile home park and I think they'd get hot under the collar if I pulled in with 70' of truck and trailer and parked right beside my neighbors and my mobile homes. I have a place for the tractor, just am hung up on where to take the trailer. The company is going to issue me glad hand and king pin locks as well.

    Thanks in advance.

I think your best bet is to think outside the box. Drive around your community and look at various businesses and perhaps vacant businesses that have space, that's not locked at night. Then track down the owner and politely ask if you can occasionally drop a trailer or perhaps even leave a vehicle if you feel good about the place. Many don't want to for liability reasons, but some understand and appreciate trucker's needs and will work to accommodate them, perhaps for a modest and reasonable monthly fee.

Look for any size business where you see trucks and trailers already parked there on weekends. And don't rule out some farmers or other land-owners who may have accessible property. Don't park where there may be issues following heavy rains, snow, or where kids meander about frequently. Sometimes you can find a location where the state puts gravel and cinder. Call the regional director and see if he will have a problem with you parking there.

Type goblue in the search box and look for one of his posts. He's a Grand Rapids guy. Touch base with him by Private Message.

Look around for local businesses. Also, you might want to look into local diesel repair shops, storage facilities (a lot of them have room for boats, RVs, campers, tractors, trailers, etc).

if you are under a load most companies wont allow you to drop the trailer so you need to check on that also

Just remember that if you drop it in Michigan, the owner of the property can claim it as abandon and have it towed without notifying the company. When they find the trailer, they will have to pay for the tow and storage fees under Michigan law.

In other words - GET permission.

Where in GR are you? If you are under a load, it might not be a good idea to park where you aren't able to maintain visual contact with the trailer. If you are on the south end, I could recommend a couple of places.
