God bless you for getting this kind of money. It is EXCELLENT money.
Hopefully, your company will NOT start bringing in (massive) immigrant labor at much less pay than what you are receiving. This seems to be a HUGE PROBLEM in many industries: construction, meatpacking, poultry processing, dairy and crop farming, along with other occupations that have become predominately immigrant labor intensive.
God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.! -
The Regs all come from Washington DC. You want change? Send different people to Washington. That's how change happens. Make sure you vote. Make sure you know who you are voting for. As Americans we get the Government we deserve by who votes for it.

Voting doesn't help. All these guys are humble before showing up in DC.. the people get them there and then it becomes a personal agenda for them.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
yeah the industry has changed a lot, I grew up in a trucker family, both my parents used to be truckers, several others in the family as well. My mother tried to talk me out of it but I persisted anyway and said I would try my hardest to be the exception and make decent money....im still trying but havent given up yet, came close to giving up a few times and now my mother tells me to stick it out and something will come eventually.
I have options lined up once I get my endorsements I need, I just need to get them done, one job is hourly only $18 a hour with ot past 40 hours but still will average out a lot more than im getting with the current mega, I just have to get some decent checks to afford the background checks, endorsements and the hometime to get the stuff done. Right now my wife is trying to make side money to help me with the bills and my endorsements.
Its true that not enough drivers stand up but that will remain the case, look how many years has gone by without the truckers word in the law planning process. You will never get enough to halt and take a stand rather its fear of losing their job, lack of money to take the time off for a strike etc, plus there are plenty of people coming in right out of schools to take your job at a lower rate. -
Its sad isn't it but its not just in trucking its everywhere this country is in bad shape.

Actually, we get the government the large "donors" PAY for... not the one WE deserve.
The problem is, WE, as a group may be pretty large (roughly 5 million, or so), but as a VOTING block, we're pretty small... take the 5 million (or so), drivers out there, divide by 50 states, and ya get an average of 100k drivers per state (keeping this simple, folks... don't over-engineer it)... if, say 60% of us vote, that's 60k drivers per state, divided by, say 20 districts per state, you're only talking about 3k votes... NO federal level politician cares about 3k votes... We have NO clout... period... sux, but that's the basic reality of it... As much of a fan of voting I may be, I KNOW it won't solve our problems in the driving industry (NOT trucking industry... THAT's run by the mega's wagging the dog with millions in "campaign" donations)... It will take a collective demonstration to get their attention... I still say we should ALL take our mandatory 30 minute break at noon, EST, blocking all lanes and shoulders of all major highways... If we could pull THAT off, then, suddenly, there would be a LOT more than 3k voters per district screaming for change.... when mini-van mom has to pay $11 for a loaf of bread, SHE will change her vote... ideology can NEVER overrule self-interest. -
Sorry, no fire will be started. The politicians want your vote and nothing else from any of us. Vote for me, then shut up. Look at the big picture, American politicians are hated worldwide, because they don't listen, they think they know it all and aren't interested in anyone's opinion.
-
yeah our votes are small and there are probably 10:1 who hate the truckers and will vote against us, like you mentioned once those prices go up too far then maybe just maybe they might think different....
of course look how much prices have gone up in the past few years due to fuel prices, guess it wasnt enough to get people to change their ways though. -
ATA & OOIDA; Does anyone have an idea on how expensive is to maintain an lobby in DC ? ATA has the mean$$ but the coffers of OOIDA depend on the membership. When was the last time anyone contributed to that cause?
