Sorry but no one will get any fire in them to do anything, even contacting their elected officials. We are a scattered group of people, some claiming to be professionals while others are just in it for the money or the work and this is where the problems start.

It is sad to say this but we are at fault for our own problems, not wanting to make demands of others or involve ourselves into politics to the point that we get together and do more than complain.

I wish, truly honestly wish it wasn't that way but it is.

I totally agree I think the hrs we had afew months back were reasonable I would work my 14 I wss ready for bed after that usually didnt take breaks didnt have time delivering grocery loads to walmart then they forced us with these nee rules which are a joke.

I dont need told I need a break and dont need someone saying I can olny take 1 restart a wk that really sucks when m u dont get a load that day and sit 34hrs anyways waiting for the next load and dont even get a restart.

I would like to see the gov force these companys pay us hrly a decent amout m plus all miles but tha t will never hsppen

I would be happy if I was even paid minimum wage for my non driving on duty time, I dont like that I do pre trips, post trips, time at shippers/receivers all for free. Good luck getting them to change stuff though, changing pay to hourly might be a good move for the government but doubt it will ever happen for us.

Well, according to L'il Orphan Annie, the Feds can't impose rules on the folks who pay their bribes... uh... I mean affect our duty day with detention and such... funny... the Commerce Clause gives the Feds the authority to regulate ALL aspects of interstate commerce... last time I checked, Brokers, shippers, and receivers all fall into that category... the Feds DO have the jurisdiction... they just don't want to annoy their benefactors.

You all seem to want to fix the symptoms, not the cause. As long as we have politicians who can and do take money from mega carriers to pass laws that require us all to work longer hours for less money, we will never fix the real problem. You guys seem to want some magician to wave a wand and mega's will just decide to pay more and be more fair to O/O's. Congressman Gutierrez claims to now have enough Republicans to pass his amnesty bill. That will legalize 20 million people (19 million of them will probably be truck drivers). How many of you have called your Congressman to tell him you do not want him to sign this bill? Thats what I thought. Mega carriers gave big money to buy these votes because they really need millions more people who are willing to work for less than minimum wage and not complain about it.

So, lets all politely ask our Congressmen to ignore the bags of cash that SWIFT and Knight keep giving them and do whats right for the little guy **sarcasm**.

Or we could just kill em all **not sarcasm**.

Yeah... the "proper" method would be to replace the D.C. dips#its who take $$$ from the megas... Two problems with that:

    1. WE don't have the voting block to actually influence an election in ANY district; and

    2. The replacements would get just as drunk on the free $$$ as the ones already there.

OOIDA was started by a guy parking his truck sideways across all lanes of the interstate... the Governor of the state actually came out to meet with him...

Try THAT today, and the cops would just blow your head off and tow the truck... take them about 15 minutes to clean it all up and make the driver out to be a domestic terrorist...

What WOULD do the trick, if we could all get it together, would be a massive "Abiding by the RULES" protest... MY first idea was for ALL drivers to take their 30 minute break at noon, EST, blocking all lanes and all shoulders of every highway... the cops can't write that many tickets, tow that many trucks, or fake that many domestic terrorists in 30 minutes...

Simple, effective, and guaranteed to get the attention we need... AND, the best part: we're just taking the break we've been ordered to take... of course, the little twist on the technique is what would get the attention...

All of that sounds good but who wants to take a chance and lose their jobs or the money they need to make?

As I said no one will get any fire in them to do anything, even contacting their elected officials. We are a scattered group of people, some claiming to be professionals while others are just in it for the money or the work and this is where the problems start.

We are at fault for our own problems, not wanting to make demands of others or involve ourselves into politics to the point that we get together and do more than complain.

Like this thread, we blame other things, the politicians, the companies and so on but the politicians are the ones who need us to stay in power. It is like the petition things, worthless unless there are voters who will be vocal about the cause that they signed the petition for and actually call and write to their elected official.

It begs the question how many of us first actually vote and then have actually sent a coherent personal letter about the HOS to our congressman and followed it up with a phone call?

I am betting .003% of the members here on this site and far less in our profession.
