I am 56 years old, with a current CDL, used to work for Praxair hauling hydrogen, and thought I was slick and pursued a career as a realtor. I have been out of trucking for 10 years and want back in. Real estate sucks here in Ca. Cant make a living doing it anymore. I would love to get back behind the wheel, yet I'm hitting obstacles. Should I go back to trucking school, or keep submitting applications? CR England accepted me, yet no paycheck for a couple months while re-training. Does anybody have any suggestions???? How about some companies with a fast track system? At least where I can get paid something, so i dont starve waiting for the first check.
Thanks for your help, and hope to see you all out there shortly.
    Take care and be careful.

10 years out is going to be tough to avoid the bottom feeder route. If you're truck driving aptitude is like riding a bike for you, some carriers (like TMC that I have the same experience with) will take on drivers on a trial basis to see where you are with a trainer although they may still want to see a recent "refresher course" at an authorized school which they will reimburse over time if they take you on. It's good that you worked for an established hazmat company like Praxair so they will still vouch for your employment 10 years ago and that may give you some help. Also good that you kept your CDL up. Your health ok to pass a DOT physical?

Try Watkins and Shepard! They have a 10 day workout or training camp and if you pass that in a truck you go!. They are pretty good with getting you a check on a regular basis, but they did just pay out a multi million dollar law suit. Good Luck.

The quickest paycheck will be with Prime Inc. or CRST. Check their websites. Central Refrigerated would be very good also. With CRST you're only obligated for 8 months, then you can move on if you wish; pretty good deal.
