Currently waiting on my recruiter to set up my trip to Gary, Indiana. I know I will be driving a rented car down and supposed to take shuttle to the terminal. Also that I will be gone for 3 weeks.
Was wondering from those who've been there, what I can expect.

Well got one more thing to add to the expectations. A Roehl Sponsored sleep study. On account of my BMI being over 35 and my neck being larger in circumference than 17"
Don't know what they're testing, but suspect they'll find just cause to demand me purchase a Cpap device. -
There's a lot of info from driver's on this thread alone to answer everything and things you wont expect. That's why my general answer to your post. To make a new thread instead of clicking one of the newbie threads boogles my mind. Not to bash you at all nor detour your efforts. Its good to ask for info. But theyre are more than one newbie thread in the top ten my friend. BMI is for sleep apnea and thats a controversial subject that you can also find info on as well. Take some time and read some past threads that are actually more recent. Or go to orientation and find out for yourself. Best of luck.

If someone wants to delete this thread I have no issue with that. And I understand well enough what's coming. Just wanted to know more bout the atmosphere at the Gary site. Everyone I talk to in person pretty much says the same. That Gary is a #$%^ hole and I wouldn't want anything to do with it.

The Gary terminal is somewhat a reflection of the city it's in. The city of Gary has its share of struggles like a lot of cities in the so-called "rustbelt." I wouldn't say it's a "#$%^ hole" by any means. Due to its location in a very high-freight area of the country, it gets a LOT of traffic coming and going through it. The mechanics and personnel there are usually quite busy, but I have always been treated well by the people there. Prior to the upgrade it's currently undergoing, it was pretty cramped and crowded. The upgrade/expansion will help a lot with that. Unfortunately the construction is still in progress, but when it's done it will be pretty nice.
Dark Squall Thanks this. -
Pretty much sums it up. Most of the shop guys are rude, but they're probably tired of working around construction. I can't stand that terminal, especially with it all tore up now. I love Appleton and Marshfield.Dark Squall Thanks this.

For peace and quiet, and really friendly mechs. Iron mountain. Appleton close second.Dark Squall Thanks this.

So if I had to compare to another city, it would be justifiable to say Gary is like Detroit and Flint.
And the guys working at the terminal are stressed and probably tired. I get that.
