As a general principle, I agree with you that the main reason drivers don't stand up is fear of losing their job... no question. The POTENTIAL answer to that dilemma lies in two principles:
1. EVERYBODY (or at least a larger part of the majority), needs to participate; and
2. Make it something that can't be used as a reason to fire the driver... taking the gov't mandated 30 minute break (albeit in the middle of the road), would work... Also, IF there were enough that did participate, I can guarantee you that 3 million drivers aren't going to be fired...
To answer your second point: I vote EVERY single time (either in person or absentee), but I DO acknowledge the FACT that a large percentage of our citizens do not participate, regrettably, I believe that drivers tend to ignore their duty (in MY opinion), to participate in our Democracy... it's their RIGHT to not engage, I just find it regrettable...

i'm curious as to how much longer you all wanna take NOT standing up to the govt.
cuz you know, the cab camera is coming. -
cab cam would be a violation of our rights and privacy
-
Lol. I guess all the bus drivers have a reason to file a lawsuit. I'm sure the 3rd eye guys violated that rule also
-
I think you sort of got it, but number 2, well the company can fire you - most of us work under at will employment rules, so they can do what they want. But if they didn't, why is it that there are not people using their 10 hour reset to do something now?
Fortunately we are not a democracy, that is a bad thing to be, but overall we need to tell others to stop complaining and act, it works for a lot of other professions and causes.
No it isn't, we are a federally regulated industry and they can put this in the cab of the truck to regulate us. IT doesn't mean it is right or that the use of it means much to safety but it has no bearings on rights and privacy. -
What have you heard about the 29 regulation changes? Anything specific?
-
well if they pass cams in the cab then im out, not going to drive all day with big brother watching every move i make, everytime I pick my nose etc.

One change I've heard is coming will be the paperwork requirements for Vehicle Inspections, ie Post Trips. The feds are gonna propose that you wouldn't have to fill out a DVIR unless there is something to write down. So that makes one. -
Ahhhh the old "lets all stop working for a few days... That will teach 'em".
Read "the Liberty Amendments" by Mark Levin. -
Uhhh...NO, that's NOT what I've advocated or said... My thought is for every truck to take the 30 minute break at noon EST on a given day, setting the brakes across all lanes and shoulders... just for 30 minutes...the FEDERALLY mandated break... that's all... the impact would be, to say the least, somewhat noticed.
