Yes, Stanley is junk.
As far as screwdrivers go, my main ones are Snap On. I also have lots of Mastercraft, Fuller, SK and some other brands. Snap On feels the best in my hand, slip the least, and the tips seem to wear better. I have the older generation of handle from Snap On. I do not like the current generation of screwdriver handle, looks dumb. The Mastercraft ones I have are a bit too round and hard to get a good hold on. The handle designs keep changing though. You kinda have to grab one and see what feels best to you. All the blades are easily removable in the Snap On ones, so they are easy to swap out for warranty. The rest are throw away or just return to the store for warranty. Our Canadian Tire stores here in Canada have absolutely fantastic sales on their screw driver sets. 80 to 100 piece sets regular price of around $100 go on sale for about $25 all the time. At those prices, who cares if you break on or two.Cat sdp Thanks this. -
I love the red and black rubber handles Snap On screw drivers! After that it's Klein.

If your patient Ebay is a great source for used high quality tools for a third of the price. I've deck out my rollaway box with standard/ impact, non impact swivel sockets, ratchets, extensions specialty wrenches that I would have never in my right mind paid Snap on truck prices. Warranty still applies also no matter how old. My best score was from a flea market was a 1940's 50's snap on 3/4" heavy duty socket set complete for 200 bucks. Showed to a snap on dealer and he told me a new set like it would run well over 2 grand. He wanted to buy it from me on its antiquity.
Heavyd Thanks this. -
Yes, Ebay is an excellent place. I have also scored many times. Like you said, you really have to be patient and watch the prices, including the shipping. I never pay anything close to retail. It is shocking the amount of tools for sale there, used, that the guy is asking retail or sometimes even more for!

Just can't get caught up in the auction mentality. Sometimes you just have to pass, the same or similar item will come up again. I don't know of many 1 of's that tool makers made.

I love those old wooden handle square shank screw drivers, there cheap, comfy in the hand and when you have a stubborn screw a wrench near the tip to assist breaking loose. Thats just me though I tend to abuse screw drivers. They always end up getting the pry bar/ punch treatment with the hammer. LOL

I had a large snap screw driver, the tip broke, I was trying to remove a starter pole screw, and no warrenty coverage, never bought anouther Snap-on screwdriver, Craftsman cover their warrenty, I got given a set of Stanley screwdrivers, the seam OK.
Much of this thread is just a sales pitch for snap-on same as the ones for Shaffers, revex,
Just a thought! -
Wow I'm sorry to here that. I have alot of the old black handle screw drivers. I've had no problem warrantying the shanks that are removable. The dealer I deal with says I'm sol if the handles break though. Try a different truck

I never had an issue with getting screwdriver tips replaced under warranty. If has has no tips on the truck, he replaces the whole thing. He saves all the handles, so if you tear up a handle, sometimes he has free ones. If a Snap-on rep refuses to replace a broken tip, call Snap-on. I had a guy once would not give me a socket off the truck. His reason was that the tools on the truck are for sale, he has to order warranty tools in. After not having it the second week, I called Snap-on. He left our shop, but was back 1/2 hour later and gave me my socket. Soon after we had a different rep.
I do know that they can deny warranty of it's melted or ground down. The biggest problem with Snap-on's warranty is getting all their reps on the same page.
