I keep hearing truckers mention how they do not want to be a number... even if an employer "acts" like they care about you, they do not. The truth is that you are there to make them money and if you leave someone else will replace you. You will never hear from that company again, they will not check in to see how are you doing. They do not know your favorite food or favorite color but they know your truck number and employee ID. I learned a long time ago that no one really cares except for your family. Unless you drove 20 years for billy and his dad at their five man operation in bumhill alabama, you are just another driver. The sooner you realize this the easier the job will become.
Get over the "im not a number" rant

I agree. Most companies only can say your name after they put your truck number in the computer. I just don't get it; "be a name, not a number." Who cares, just pay me!

Some expect you to have breakfast with them. Pancakes, Ham & eggs. Some care about you. Not as many as you think. If you get one, enjoy it. It won't come again. This day & age it's gone. Some little company's leased to big contractors still exist, with two or three trucks, and Drivers who care. Good living, IF you care. Bought my truck from one. He & She passed on. Miss those pancakes.

I agree with you, but it's still a cool Bob Seger song!

the big fleets are winning the battle. mom&pop are on there way out. so there won't be any more sitting down at the kitchen table with the boss just having a good time and telling jokes and trading stories over dinner. it's all cold hearted corporates that see the driver as a replaceable number on the computer screen.
alot of the drivers don't realize. there d/m has up wards to 200 drivers on their board. the number is the best way to help the quickest. -
Same way Walmart took over mom and pop shops and same way Facebook and Twitter dominated the internet. I used to run forums with millions of posts and over 100,000 members, but now they all go to Facebook and Twitter only because "everyone is there". When you look at a lot of large websites, for example Craigslist, the sites themselves are really plain and lacking but just the fact everyone uses them is what makes them popular.

Walmart doesn't take over mom'n'pop shops - they simply sell more things cheaper and so force them out of business.
And your forums went under because Facebook and Twitter had better marketing, and so attracted more people. -
Newnashguy if right folks, you are just a number in this industry. You are nothing but a speck of dirt on the bottom of their shoes.I don't care how much ### kissing you do,how much tattling on drivers you do,you are still just another driver. So the ones who think they're so special, get over yourselves, you're just another number.
NewNashGuy Thanks this. -
