Hey everyone first post, I was curious, I have a ram with a 5.9 cummins and it has a stack and it's very loud, I just installed just a cheap basic cobra 9/19 last night with an antenna from Walmart-will return its garbage. I was wondering if there's anyway to eliminate static if I get a real nice antenna or do I need a different box radio in general, one of higher quality? When the truck is off I can hear perfectly fine no static, when it's running I can hear them descent, they can't understand me at all and when no ones talking the static is unbelievably loud. And yes I've messed with the squelch control. Any suggestions on a set up to eliminate this? I know big trucks are just as loud as my truck and have stacks as well so there's gotta be a way to hear/understand easier with a better setup? Thanks guys!
So much static can't understand

well first off buy you a good antenna i dont mean
walmrt crap 2nd that radio doesnt have a analog
switch to cut out some of the noise its prob
picking up alot of static and rf interfernce from your
truck its not the radio ive used the 19 before and the
520uniden did a great job once i got a wilson 1000
mag antenna might i suggest a mag mount 1000-5000
otherwise youll go firestik or something i think the mag
would work better for the radio step it up to a cobra 25
it has the anl switch for filter
after that unplug your coax from the radio and plug it back
if its bad you need another antenna like i said the wilson 1000
-5000 is sweet -
Its not the radio, it is the truck.
This seems to be a common problem with some dodges and fords for that matter. -
that was jst some checklist things to do

Not really, no truck or car is immune to the issue. It all depends on who messed with what or how it has been maintained.
My present PU is a dodge with a cummins in it and there was a static problem with it but grounding the alternator and IP fixed it. -
a few tips:
run pwr direct to battery
get a power line filter
isolate the noise (turn off/on accessories add capacitor to noise maker)
DON'T put coax thru door jamb, or pinch spots. (ruin cable and allow noise)
Does your AM stereo have the same problem? -
Kudos -- great tips. The best one, of course, is to eliminate the noise at its source.
Just remember that capacitors get connected *across* the power leads (parallel wiring), with the wires as short as possible, and power line filters go *inline* with the hot lead (series wiring) and inline filters usually have a chassis ground wire that should be as short as possible.

a galaxy 94 and a cobra 19 is wayyy diffrent as far as filtering you cant compare it
