The Smith System: the best training new and old drivers can get. Sorry kids. Using the Smith system made me a better driver and a less stressed driver. I ( and many others) believe in it and swear by it.

I agree with you to an extent, I was taught the way by my father and grandfather (both truck drivers), but I still picked up some good info and tools from the smith system. Would I have paid for the training? NO, but the company paid for it and so why not. Some people were not taught how to drive defensively. For that matter common sense is NOT so common anymore. While it may not make sense for an O/O to pay for the training, it does pay for itself with larger companies. If just one accident is avoided the training probably saved them money. Now could it be taught without the "smith system", sure but the smith system has packaged it all up nicely with a pretty bow for the bigger companies. Why not start the "Jpenn Common Sense System" and you can roll in the $$$$$$ too.

P.s. Smith system is only providing a service (training), they are not the only way.
