I understand what you are saying, I am not wrong with my post but it needs to be clarify it a bit.

ADP provides human resources services to a lot of companies, which includes employee record keeping. You list your company name and number or a number they gave you to confirm you worked there, ADP verifies if someone calls it but only through the company that you worked for, not by contacting ADP directly. So here is what I mean - I am calling up your former employer by the number they gave you to see if you worked there, ADP is who answers and then they give me the yes he worked there or no he didn't and that's it.

    I hope that makes sense?

The DOT requires an unbroken chain of employment back three years for everyone. Anyone w/ more than three years driving history has to go back another 7 years of JUST DOT driving jobs. A CDL driver who has worked only 5 years as a driver only needs to give three + 2.

This is what the DOT requires on the app; companies are free to ask for more but it is not required for a DOT audit.

Just another reason how much nonsense paperwork bs silliness truck drivers put up with.

If you were out of work for 10 years then went to school to be a nurse they aren't gonna give a darn about what you did before or why or why not. If you were out of work for three years, then went to trade school to get your welding license or plumbing license, or H.V.A.C. license, they aren't gonna give a dang if you have been out of work for one year then went to school to better yourself. They will actually CONGRATULATE you and say you are to be admired for going to school to better yourself! But - if you are out of work and want to better yourself and go to school to get your cdl - oh no wait you were out of work for a year or two?!? Why? Why? What is wrong with you? I don't know we can't hire you to drive our truck you were out of work for a year before you went to school to better yourself! Trucking is the ONLY trade where you will be treated this way: Treated like a criminal just because you were out of work for a year or two for whatever reason and denied any future jobs because of it!

Might be because you'd be operating a rolling death machine at 80,000 lbs.

It is ten years of employment history, not three. IT IS not just driving history, it is employment history.

    383.35 Notification of previous employment.

    (c) The following employment history information for the 10 years preceding the date the application is submitted shall be presented to the prospective employer by the applicant:

I agree it is a bunch of BS, but it is a regulation that should be changed and won't be.

I understand what you are getting at but there are two different issues, one is with the company and the other is the regulation. To cover their butts, the company has to ask for ten years back, but they can accept an affidavit for the gaps but on the other hand they don't have to consider people with employment gaps as a lack of trucking related experience.

    Understand the difference?

The 10 years can include schools that you have gone to that cover any gaps in employment as long as you include the dates. I believe out of the 3 companies my husband has worked for, they may have started with 3 yrs, but in the end it is a 10 year period they want with no gaps unexplained, the main reason I think is in case you have been in prison. You may need to make sure you take 2-3 years back W-2's for employment verification, copies are ok, and then the current check stubs. I have read of people getting notarized letters if they were self-employed or in some cases where they have had to stay home to take care of a loved one. It is better to be prepared then get there and find out you don't have.

They can push one button on their computers and find out if you were in prison or not in two seconds or less. Which is a good thing actually.
