I'm sure everyone who kept up with this over the past few years can put 2 and 2 together and realize I'm no longer employed with Pritchett. I decided to lock the thread while I was still with them and felt that I needed to let those of you who care, know what exactly happened, and maybe a few others will read this and realize that you can leave a company, whether by your choice or their choice and do it in a way where you don't have to bad mouth them to make you feel better about the circumstances leading up to the decission.

As most of you know I entertained the idea of returning to long dump and running out of state again, it wasn't just something I woke up and said I wanted to do. I took the steps necessary to feel comfortable with the move, went over and spoke with the dispatcher about it and made sure we would work well together and then took time to consider if this was my best option within the company. At this point I was tired of the same ol' same ol' grind I had been on for the last few years and thought, emphasis on thought, that this would be the right move for me.

Thursday, the 4th of August about 3:30 pm I was contacted regarding an open truck and was asked if I would be interested in the position and I accepted. The very next morning it just didnt' feel right, I made no excuses as to why other than I felt more comfortable staying where I was at. You see I don't envy you guys out there on the road, it seems like a good time until I really break it all down and realize I'm just a homebody, nothing wrong with that, I just enjoy the time with my wife and family. I made a phone call at 5:30 am expressing my apologies and that I was not interested in the transfer. After a few more tries, and speaking with my supervisor about the situation I finally was able to get a hold of HR and was informed that I had put them in a predicament and they had already hired someone in Tallahassee, granted this all must have taken place within the last 2 business hours of Thursday because I don't believe they hire guys after normal working hours, I could be wrong.

I spent the entire next week on pins and needles wondering what my future held, I will admit that my phone calls were avoided regarding the situation which did not set well with me, but again I understand where Pritchett stood on the situation. Friday August 12th I was informed by my supervisor that everything had been ok'ed and that I would be staying in Tallahassee, I received this phone call in Valdosta. I returned to Tallahassee relieved that all was well just to receive a voice mail from my supervisor asking if I could call him. I did and was informed that he had overstepped his boundaries in saying that I could stay and after talking to the higher ups in Lake Butler that my only option to stay with the company was to take the transfer to the long dump division that I had turned down a week prior.

At this point I knew my time was up and I was not going to be forced in to doing something I did not want to do so I decided it was best that I resign my employment with Pritchett. Fast forward 2 months and here I sit from PA typing the whole story. I'm not a big fan of it up here but I assume responsibility for my circumstances, do I think Pritchett could have handled it differently? Most certainly yes, but I ask myself could I have handled it differently as well? Hell yes, I should have looked at the big picture prior to accepting the position and I would still be down there turning miles on the old Mack.

What I want anyone who reads this to get from what I posted is that you have to be careful of the choices you make in life because they can definately bite you in the butt without any notice, I went from making 48,000 dollars a year to sitting up here freezing my tail off wondering what my wife and I's next move will be. Granted we're gaining a lot from this experience, she's in school and bettering herself and I'm working making good money, but the happiness is not there like it was before.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, even if no one reads it I feel better clearing the air on the situation. Would I recommend Pritchett, and go back if I was offered a job with them? Yes...........That should say something about them.

A glimmer of hope if anyone's interested. Talked to Roy Crews today and he said he's fine with me coming back as soon as something opens up in Tallahassee, so I'm hoping it's just a matter of time until I can get this thing going again.

Is your wife's situation done in Pa already??? Sounds good that you will be welcomed back too. I have always tried, and I emphasize(sp?) tried to leave in a manner that I would be welcomed back, sometimes no matter how many weeks notice or how much you explain it doesn't work that way but I'm glad it will for you!! Good luck and safe travels!!!

No, she's not done yet. It's been our plan for me to come back first and get things settled for when she's done. It's nothing set in stone, actually I think only 1 guy has left since me 9 months ago so that's not the best sign. All I can do is see what happens and try to make the best decission in moving forward.

It amazes me this doesn't happen more often in the trucking industry.
