I've had good luck finding solutions made by Ram Mounts http://www.rammount.com/Home/tabid/37/Default.aspx

Panavise also has a similar (but different) set of mounts, including some vehicle-specific brackets for a phone-sized mounting plate attached to a surface that gets installed to existing bolts behind the edge of the dashboard. Some of their accessories are here:
http://www.panaviseonline.com/Mobil...htm?searching=Y&sort=13&cat=25&show=30&page=1 but you can also see preassembled gooseneck and articulating ended rigid mounts on their other pages. I've used several of their products for two-way radio installations in a pretty wide variety of vehicles over the years.

Ram, PanaVise, and Gamber-Johnson all carry (or carried) emergency vehicle-type consoles for installation of, typically, two radios, a siren head, and a lighting control array. In the past they also had offerings like Ram & PanaVise, but I didn't see any of those smaller items in a brief look at their website.

Take a look at the seat bolt mounts, too. They fit under, unsurprisingly, one or two bolts that secure the passenger's seat. They're nice because they don't entail making any new holes in the vehicle. In that sense they're like the vehicle-specific mounts from PanaVise, but they are made for devices as large as laptops, so they'll hold a decent sized CB. They'll allow for varying amounts of tilt and position that can be left variable or locked into place with setscrews.

With the dearth of available metal on which to mount anything in that RAV4, the seat bolt mount may turn out to be the best available solution. They do cost a bit, however. Faced with the same kind of challenge, I'd probably end up going for a Cobra 75WXST or Midland 75-822. That way, the most challenging part of the job will be routing coax under the seat. The antenna & power coupler box can be mounted to the same seat bolt as the mount.

Dunno if that addresses your concerns well enough, but the pics I saw of the interior of a 2008 RAV4 show a lot of plastic surfaces.

Whatever you end up choosing, remember to leave the airbag deployment zones clear of hardware. That's a chief reason the replacement console/radio mounts have been so popular the last several years, but they're low on the aesthetics scale. The seat bolt and conventional mounts from PanaVise and Ram can be positioned to not block the airbags at all.

    Hope that helps some.
