Yeah honestly Im looking at Swift for a couple reasons. Mostly because I don't have the funds at the moment to pay for private truck driving school. Tough making ends meet right now, hell I even just had to sell my 68 Camaro.But that got us back on track. I'm slowly bleeding financially and I just want to find a long term career that has room to grow. Towing just is not it anymore...I'm more then willing to run my ### off. I was expecting the 1 day home for every week out. And well despite all the crap you here about Swift being the worse place I could possibly work I am going to guess those would be the whiners that couldn't hack it..Hell I just watched a bunch of Youtube videos of a guy working for Swift who basically washed out because he complains about every little thing and couldn't wrap his head around the fact that trucking is not an hourly job, and to try to relate your paychecks to a per/hr is rediculas as a truck driver. Swift is huge so obviously they are doing something right. And from what I read they just bought Central refridgerated also. I figure the more you learn to pull the less likely you are to go without a load. So go to Swift learn to flatbed and you can hook up to a dry box or a refer if it gets slow right? Guess what Im saying is it sure seems like Swift has the freight. Otherwise buying other companies wouldnt be happening so it seem like a good place to learn as far as I am concerned.

Yes I have pulled one winco reefer and a half dozen or so van loads. It happens but not too frequently.
And yes you'll run into the naysayers like a previous poster praising TMC. Well one of the guys who I met at swift FB training chased that greener grass and makes less money than I do. He's on % with TMC and runs mostly the northeast. #### that. Another guy went to Melton and we make about the same. -
do swift at least 1 year, learn the system, the industry, and get your own equipment as fast as you can.

yeah seems like Swift isn't too bad. I have read a lot of negativity about Swift but I think a lot of it people bring on themselves. I know I am just a tow truck driver and its a whole different thing but I have trained a lot of people and you can tell when people are not cut out for the road real quick. For me driving is the most relaxing thing in the world. Anyways I am sure I could talk your guys ears off all #### night.. It seems like coming to Swift isn't to bad an idea. One last question for ya Plant. Is there anything in particular I have to do to get into the flat bed side of Swift?

It looks like you made up your mind already.... Look i'm sure you'll hear 100 different answers here on this forum but all i can tell you is do a lot of research not just on swift but other companies as well. Lots of them give CDL training with 6-12 months contract

To get on the FB fleet just tell your recruiter. Also if you attend swifts cdl school in phx, the academy coordinator is the person who schedules your orientation, and she will ask if you want to do flatbed. A minor quirk though is that flatbed orientation is in Phoenix as well. So when you graduate the phx school, you'll have to go home and get your license transferred to CA (you earn an AZ license at the academy), then go back to phx again for orientation. I hope you like the greyhound.And just to go back to the company vs company bickering for a second, Lucar nailed it. All companies for the most part are the same, they have their pros and cons, good drivers do well, bad drivers don't. The best thing to do if you want to make a career out of this is to get your own truck after learning the ropes. And no I don't mean leasing a truck from swift or prime.

Thats my childhood dream was to own my own Peterbilt...although the more I look into it, it seems there are far more comfortable trucks..But its like Victory vs Harley...may be nicer...but its just not a Peterbilt. lol. I have looked into other companies but maybe its just me but Swift Fontana seems more accesible to where I live they we're all nice as hell to I went and talked to the recruiter there but he was a little busy so they said to just make myself at home and walk around. So I talked to drivers looked at trucks and bull ####ted around the yard for awhile. I guess the fact that I was made to feel right at home was the winner in my books. I met some good people at that yard everyone was really nice and talkative. Some a little wierd but I guess that comes with the territory. lol. And actually Plant the recruiter said if I want I can drive to phoenix and the company will reimburse me for gas..But that I should keep my receipts and make like eleven copies of them. lol. Plus I have a Jeep buddy of mine that lives near phoenix that I can crash with if I want to.

Yes he has options but TMC isnt one of them, since they don't hire out of CA as I previously mentioned. And yes that borough pay is why my buddy runs the NE. So on a week where he crosses the GW and Brooklyn bridge he might make slightly more money than I do. But to me its not worth it. The only bridge in NY I've had to cross with swift is the teppan zee and I'm happy to keep it that way!
