You all were right about the mileage program...no good for SE division. What does a mileage program need? Miles. 2000/week ain't gonna cut it. I'm also on the outs with this Columbia with the lawnmower-like Cat 15 engine doing all of 5.5 mpg. Just picked up my last load under this scenario tonight - will final out in Winter Haven on Saturday, then go talk to my buddies, the higher-ups - in Lakeland on Tuesday, since Monday is the holiday. Need a different truck and the % program again. If not, it's been fun...
One other possibility is that they have now changed the Tropicana division to a straight $1.35/mile for all miles, loaded and empty - but in this division it's more OTR with big miles. Easy to do 3000 plus per week there I'm told, but the question becomes, do I want to do that and run like crazy - when I could've had the same income for 2000 miles/week under %? I doubt it. But it does exist at Sunco now. Just sayin'...
As Edith Bunker told her beloved husband Archie, "You gotta eat your roughage..." and Archie answered, "Edith, at my age I don't need roughage. I need smoooothage..." I feel the same way.

I hope they care of you... Leasing to Landstar when I first started as an O/O was the best and the worst thing I ever did... You truly have to understand rates... Good luck manFrank Acavano Thanks this.

It was a painful thing for me Frank. I caught this thread as the event of you getting super excited about the move to Sunco and getting that truck at the price you did from a perspective of it being history. It had already happened. I wanted to warn you about the cat c15, but you had already made a decision and were in the truck by the time I found this thread. As soon as I went to their site and saw "2007 Freightliner" I knew exactly what was up.
I am sorry Frank, and I surely hope that his words were true. "How can we make this right."Frank Acavano Thanks this. -
Thank you sir...but I've learned long ago - that when one door closes, another opens. That's the beauty of life. But I haven't given up yet on Sunco. I hope they don't give up on me. But I have other irons in the fire, just in case. I plan to be a SUCCESS one day at this O/O thing. But it's a longgggg learning curve.Last edited: Aug 28, 2013

Saw some new faces up in Mechanicsville @ SuprValue Last night, only one of the drivers would talk to me. I just hope that with the sale of LandSpan, We will expand the refer division, and pick up more freight to return to Florida. I am sitting at home this weekend, due to the fact there is nothing going back to FL. Don't get me wrong, I like being home, but I have been taking to much time at home here lately.

Let me ask you this about Sunco expanding now in light of the sale of LandSpan: How many new contractors are going to put up with being forced into the Mileage Pay program - once they see that they're getting about 2000/miles per week? Remember that other than the Tropicana division - Sunco is a regional company - and I imagine that most of those divisions are going to yield the same miles/week, no?
I've just completed my first month on it - and my revenue was down almost $1000/week from Percentage. If they can't or won't switch me back to %, I'll be saying sayonara. And this is the new normal there...the Mileage Pay program.
If I'm wrong, please correct me.Bumper Thanks this. -
I agree with you Frank, I just hope I am granfathered inFrank Acavano Thanks this.

If they ever force me to mileage pay, I think I'm going to by a trailer and get my own authority... Every one has told me there not going to. If your on % you can stay in it... We will see... I'd be more concerned if I was on a lease purchase.
Frank Acavano Thanks this. -
I also wonder if they will stop the lease purchase program, now that they don't have landspan trucks to sell.

They have a whole fleet of LandSpan trucks to sell. I believe Celadon will use their own equipment
