I use to haul oversize loads and our back hauls had to be traped. what a pain. so when I return to work( I'm on med leave) I'm going to be delivering new trailers. not loads inside. after 37 years I dont even wanna aprk near a reefer anymore, like my quiet time. and love my frieghtlinner Cascadia.

Are you going to work for the trailer business on West Bypass in Springfield? I can't think of the name right now.

Yea im okay just eager to move forward but i also been debating in my head whether i should lease or be a company driver. I know my priorities but i also know that being away from home is also an essential part in my lifestyle. I do miss my lady and i wish she was with me now so we could start together on the road you know what i mean. That is the only part that bothers me, but other then that i don't have much responsibilities like kids. I know im learning a lot and will continue to learn much more. I do appreciate you sharing your experience and concern toward my new career HometimeQueen and thank you for your encouragement.

    HometimeQueen and oliver2 Thank this.

Hubby is back on the road again... It was nice to have him home for a few days...
He is trying to make sure he sticks there for the 90 days, he thought he could handle being gone for 4 weeks and then home for 4 days, but he was not wanting to get back in the truck...
It doesn't help that he had a breakdown, and was delayed getting home, and then when he gets home to have a very eventful and stressful HT visit...
The morning he was due in, my dad went to the ER for a heart attack, he is fine, they put a stint in, kept him 2 days, and sent him home, then he ended up going back in the next night for pneumonia and bladder infection... We had a spa day set up to get massages, and they cancelled because of a water main break, and then to top it off, when we were coming home from taking my dad to the doctor, we got rear ended while hubby was driving, neither of us were hurt, but my bumper on my van was cracked...
I am ready to go out on the road, just to leave all this stress behind, and hubby wants to stay home... some days I wish I could be able to pass the clutching part of driving a truck...
I told hubby to stick with it, and make the best of it. I am the one dealing with 2 teenagers and HIS mom...:biggrin_2551:

I am so sorry, New OTR Wife. You have been on my mind and was hoping that you were enjoying home time. As hard as it was, I bet you were glad to have him with you when your dad was so ill.....many times things work the way that they are meant to be. No matter how long they have been doing this, they never want to get back in the truck after home time. But they do and he will ....he has too much of himself invested in this to give up now. You do know that you can go with him, don't you? I believe it is $10 a month for the insurance. I never got to go with Husband .....but if your kids are older and mother-in-law is able to stand in for you, maybe you could go. Your husband isn't stuck with staying out 4 weeks .....he could come home every 2 weeks or even alternate the length of time that he stays out. A huge chunk of this job and this lifestyle is attitude and pure stubborn orneriness. I think it has hurt your husband to have a DM that he doesn't have faith in. Dispatchers and DM's come and go in this business ....he will eventually have some one else.

HTQ, he is doing fine now... He is such a wonderful, caring father and husband, that it upsets him to not be here with all of us, but FaceTime, and being able to call and talk to everyone helps out.
We will persevere and be stronger from this time away from each other.

I am glad he is doing better. That is the main reason Husband came home every 2 weeks ....to be with his family. When the kids start to become teenagers it really lets you know how fast time goes by .....they will be on their own before you can blink your eyes. It is so hard not to be able to spend every precious minute with them. We paid a penalty for him to come home as often as he did ....didn't get as many miles the second week so that they could get him home ...but it was worth it.

you don't need the extra stress of learning how to run a business successfully right away
humans mostly learn thru mistakes so make them on Transam's dime
until you make a mess yourself and get out of it you wont remember
I can tell you don't do this or that BUT...............................

todays check was $794.35 for 2775 miles
company driver would have got $832.50
I have to get my own insurance and pay my own taxes
I can not be any clearer :biggrin_25512:

You are most welcome, Badboy. May I make a suggestion to add to what Pete just said? There are so many things that can happen in OTR ....Pete, Honeybadger, kirk have all shared their experience with lease. When it is good it is very very good, but when it is bad it can be devastating. Passport plans to lease when he comes back in the fall, but I believe he also plans to coach in order to make the most of his paychecks. You can lease at any time....they will be happy to let you pick your truck. Even as a company driver your lady could ride with you, it is a very reasonable fee to do that. And even company drivers can become a coach for students ....So, my suggestion would be have your lady with you at times and when you feel confident enough to be a trainer, try it. It will add to your paycheck and if you enjoy being a coach then you will know that it is something that you can always do to improve your bottom line if you encounter some bad luck when and if you decide to lease. In the mean time, as Pete said, you are gaining your experience and learning on the company dime.
