I am retiring from the Army here shortly and am considering a new life. Get paid to see America. I have already read and gotten replies back on who and what to look for being a new driver as in Comapnies. My question is how to rate the makes of the trks? I know there are 3-5 makes out there. Should I look at the make of the trks that they have in there fleet or does that matter? I know of course you are going to have your Peterbilt, Kenilworth, Freightliner, and a few others how there saying these are the best trks on the road. What do I look for or does it matter until I get at least 1 yr under me and then start looking for a better Comapny with better trks? Or does it come down to the mechanics that work for the Comapny when you barake down? Thanks for any info.

I'd say quation is not correct. For example for truck owner Freightliner ore Interantional (not with Mxxforce) with manual tranny are better for lower maintanace.
For truck driver.... I'd say Volvo, Scania and Pete, better with I-shift ore ZF Astronic. Of cource with bunk heater. -
Everyone has their own preference.
Volvo, nicest as a driver, expencive to maintain decent MPG
Freghtliner, Cheap to maintain, decent to drive
Pete/KW Pretty, expensive to maintain, poor mpg, poor ride and handling, but they look good -
Kenworth, Peterbilt, Western Star, Fruitshaker, International, Volvo, Mack. In that order.

As a company driver the view from the inside looking out is probably most important, and a decent repair staff helps driving well maintained equipment is that much better as far as Petes or kenworths riding and handling bad thats a myth my 85 model Pete handles as good as any truck I have ever took down the road does it drive like a cadillac car no but i will say some volvos do and I have heard that some Internationals do as well.

Not a myth, if your pete has stock suspension it is a much rougher ride, with a lot less view then a FL or Volvo. I can drive twice as far without a break now that i got in a FL columbia. I used to be in a 379 pete. Fl handles the curves way better and at higher speed. Also it turns much sharper and has a short hood, so maneuvering is easier.

It just low air leaf pete and air ride cab a lot is how you set them keeping bushings new etc. I'm not saying it drives better than a volvo or a columbia its a truck can't expect it to drivelike a car. Bear in mind I do all my own upkeep its worth it to me to have the room under the hood give to get deal I hate to work on one that half the engine is under the cowl, and they all need work no matter what color creed or religious preference.

Paccar, western star, freightliner, international, Mack/Volvo. Pro and cons to each higher resale, ease to work, ride, handling and durability etc. Honestly After Pete and kenworth it's a toss up!

Thanks for the info everyone. If I start out with a company and become solo will they give me a old beat down trk or a fairly decent 1? I understand if they don't give there best since I would be starting out new. As a new driver, Do you work into the nicer equipment?

Well if you're a new driver and you get a truck with less than 200-300 thousand miles on it they probably have a really high turn over rate...
