Hi< so I haven't really driven a truck in 13 years and I certainly haven't done OTR in that time. To my astonishment I was told I needed to go back to driving school when I started to call around with companies . I had driven for three years doing OTR back in the nineties and have kept my Class A license and D.O.T card up to date. I miss driving and want to get back into it! The companies that I liked said I needed recent OTR experience or I needed to go back to school and do 160 hours. So I called Schneider national and they said I could do a 40 hour refresher course and then go through their 18day training program. I live up in the Boston area and had to call around to the two schools in this area and finally get the guy to do a 40 hour course for me for the sum of $2000.00 Its not typical he said but he'd throw me in with existing classes and I could do it whenever.

Anyway my question is, does anyone know of other companies that will hire someone with my dilemma after doing 40 hour course? My license is spotless!

    Thanks!!

Sorry I can't help you man...13 years is a long time to be away from behind the wheel. I took a refresher after just a year and a half just to make it look good.

Paschall Truck Lines and Maverick will hire you.
Paschall has their own refresher and it's free if you stay with them 12 months.
    Maverick doesn't require a refresher.

The Schneider offer seems fair also.

FFE is another one to consider . . . they were one that I talked to recently, but my return to the seat has already happened . . . they have their own school, put you through a two week refresher and then 6 weeks with a trainer. I got lucky and was able to return as team driver with my hubby, so I didn't have to go with my alternate options.

I had been out of the seat for the same amount of time, and hadn't worked in the last 7 years, so I had an extra strike against me.

Do yourself a favor and find a small company they'll hire you.

I was in the same boat. Took a refresher. The cdl training school I went to offered a free refresher.

I know I'm enjoying being back out there! Home for a couple of days, then load back out on Monday. The first week was interesting, but it all came back very quickly for me. It probably will for you as well!
