I am a student at US Trucking school in Denver. My top consideration for the company i'd like to work for is May. I just have a question regarding home time.

I have a son that lives in Windham, Connecticutt. Can I take my hometime there? Even though my residence is in Denver, CO? If I can take hometime in CT, where do I park truck? Or can I take it home if there is room?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Scott

Very unlikely you would ever get to CT for time off, in one of their trucks anyways. May does run into CT from time to time. However, in the three years I drove for them I think I went into CT once.

Timing your days off away from your home terminal, which would be Denver most likely, can be a little tricky too.

So, I would not base your decision to work for May on them getting you to CT for home time. Also, May frowns on drivers taking the truck to their homes. Not saying it isn't ever done, it's just not done that often.

    scottbrat Thanks this.

In my experience even home time in Denver is difficult to get. After consistently being late getting home every time in 6 months, as well as other difficulties with the company, I called HR in hopes of some sympathy for my issues. The woman I spoke to there told me "if you get home within a week of your scheduled time, that's pretty good". Seriously, that was from HR.

I just finished orientation, and they told me they would need two weeks notice in order to get me hometime.

For whatever it's worth, May has been very good about getting me back to my "home yard" (Yolo) on time for home time.

Actually, I was responding to goodole-mr-wilson.

(As far as getting HT in CT, I think that the OP will be SOL )

Hint .. Always request the day before ya really want off to make sure you are there. Sometime freight dictates an extra day before getting home.
