We have a small weekly newspaper here and this week there is an article about the school board meeting on the top half of the front page. The school here has about 700 kids K-12. The school buildings were built in the early 1960's. They have done minor improvements but most of the money goes to football fields and different athletic equipment....we have the very finest. Over the summer they spent $409,000 on "projects". They maintain a balance of about 3.5 million dollars in the local bank. The classroom doors are original and if I remember correctly they are wood and obviously have no locks. They are proposing a new school tax levy. I know, I know you are wondering when I am going to get to the point ....so I will just copy it for you ....other than the names of the principal and Athletic Director ....
The crowd was treated to a demonstration of a technique on preventing intruders from entering a classroom by the Athletic Director and the High School Principal. While the principal laid on the floor, anchoring a rope-the other end looped around a doorknob-the athletic director pulled from the other side of the door unsuccessfully attempting entry.
"I wasn't even holding it very hard, honestly," the principal said as he walked away triumphantly.
I am not joking ....this was in our local paper. Every teacher will be issued a length of rope to loop around the doorknob, of a wooden door, then lay on the floor and anchor it shut....that is their defense against an armed intruder.I live in an area full of morons ....I may have to move
New security doors , security locks? ....rope is soooo much cheaper

Hannaford Bros in South Portland Maine
don't follow GPS last 1.5 miles
takes you there thru residential streets
turn right onto Rumery St sign says PORTLAND INDUSTRIAL PARK

there is a washout on the way back out on left before you get to route 1oliver2 Thanks this. -
Not kidding, oliver2! I couldn't believe it. I guess they spent all of their budget on other things .....like a new bus for the football team. What burns me up is there are grants available through the Department of Homeland Security .....but I think it would require some modicum of intelligence to realize that and apply for the grants.
I am thinking of sending a copy of the newspaper to a friend of mine that is on the evening news.
oliver2 Thanks this. -
Husband is in Texas today, while he was talking with me this afternoon he saw 3 drivers get pulled over for seatbelt violations. Unmarked cars and binoculars were being used to nail drivers that unbuckled their seatbelts before they pulled into the truck stop or were buckling up as they left the truck stop.
