I was escorted out of NYC by NYPD. Luckily for me the cops were cool cause it is ILLEGAL to take 53' into the boroughs. I showed them the multiple QC messages to FM saying the roads were posted and way to small to be driving on. Replies were basically, its ok to make delivery keep going (Cause money is the cornerstone) Cops laughed and said best bet is to not listen to dispatcher when it comes to laws cause they have no clue what the law is. The only law they know is they need the product delivered. HAHAHA. They took me all the way to the NJ state line and told me if I go back into the state I will not be driving anymore :/ Many of the bridges on the highways are "low clearance" and you have to exit and get right back on to bypass the overpass. Depending on time of day (really early am or really late pm) its doable. But mid-day with a 53' is asking for trouble.

Well hell...I'm gonna have to tell the boss we have to get a shorter trailer. I go in and out with a 53' with no problem...proper planning.

Just avoid rush hour obviously, and the staten island expressway is a nightmare anytime, even 2am ive been in bumper to bumper. the tolls are ridiculous, but theyre working to fix that for truckers (92$ to cross a bridge?). All in all, no big deal like everyone else said. Greatest city in world if you have down time.

Any big city is a piece of crap, NYC being number 1. You like it that much, power to you.

I like the people saying they do it.. Good for you, you break the law. So does that mean people should sell drugs and murder? Because you do it doesn't mean its legal.. Its the drivers responsibility to NOT break the law. Finally once I told my FM what NYPD said I was informed to get the F out of dodge! Don't worry about the load just get to a safe/legal spot to shut down to figure the next move. I ended up taking the load to a warehouse in Hoboken who planned to break it down and put it on a 48' with daycab. Once the driver got the Receiver location (He knew who it was) they opted to break the load down into multiple straight trucks. Can't always believe the customer since all they want is the product. Its the drivers job to do it safely and legally.

Wow, from the previous dialog (prior to Projekt's last post) I'd assumed that the FM already knew that 53's weren't allowed in the NYC boroughs. Seems like it would be common knowledge among the FMs and load planners, given that Roehl does a reasonable amount of business there. Sounds though like once they were made aware of it they did the right thing.
