Age requirement

My son got his CDL at 18 used my truck to get it, nobody would hire him age deal. So I had enough watching the set backs talked to my insurance man and bought him a 2000 model 379exhd and a timpte high side wagon. He cant leave the state although he will sneak across river at memphis an unload on barge at presidents island. The broker he runs for requires a million general and 50000 cargo we got 35000 physical damage truck and trailer aint enough but better than nothing. His insurance is 14800 a year just on his ride. So he gets up about 5 every morn and gets in about 7 or 8 for a 250.00 a week salary he loves it but its gotta be tough.

 

I agree with Milktanker. Find a community college or a votech.

 

You did a great thing for your son, I hope you both realize that.

Don't give up or get discouraged and take a job you hate or in field you don't care about. I feel like ive wasted half my adult life. don't get me wrong I make good money after all that time but I sure am miserable. Can't wait to get out.

 

I couldn't have a better partner, only trouble we had was he thought he was gonna get my ol '59 I had to pull rank there lol. Young trucker nothing wrong with mechanicing till you get there you will need that knowledge someday. I was a pipeline mechanic a long time just trucked between jobs, we always caught a layoff between jobs pride and wanting to drive kept me from drawing unemployment. I still do a little work for a select few on select things. When it comes to our stuff its alot of free labor but the bank appreciates it. Patience is key.

 

Not OTR companies, you will need to be 21, That the only Legal way to get a interstate CDL, Now you can go to a local driving school, at 18, to get a intrastate CDL, A intrastate CDL you will not be able to cross state lines, you must stay in the state you are licensed

 

Some places wont even consider you until age 25 due to your per existing health condition of being born.

Its age discrimination.....

I went thru school and got my NYS class 1 at 20 years old, getting a job at 21 with no experience was another thing.
